Breakfast at Hotel
Located in Kandy, long a center of the Buddhist faith, the stunning 17th-century Temple of the Tooth (Sri
Dalada Maligawa) is believed to house the left upper canine tooth of the Lord Buddha himself. This
precious relic attracts white-clad pilgrims, bearing lotus blossoms and frangipani, every day.
According to legend, the tooth was taken from the Buddha as he lay on his funeral pyre. It was smuggled
to Sri Lanka in 313 ADS, hidden in the hair of Princess Hemamala who fled the Hindu armies besieging
her father's kingdom in India.
…
It immediately became an object of great reverence and was enshrined in a series of nested jeweled
reliquaries. The tooth was brought out for special occasions and paraded on the backs of elephants, which
are sacred to the Buddha. Where it survived numerous attempts to capture and destroy it.
When the capital was moved to Kandy, the tooth was taken to the new city and placed in temples built to
honor it. The temple was originally built under Kandyan kings between 1687 and 1707

Horton Plains
Horton Plains was declared a National Park in 1988 and covers 3,160 hectares of grasslands interspersed
with forest and forms an undulating plateau more than 2,000 m (6,600 ft) high. The best time to visit these
strangely exotic moorlands above Nuwara Eliya is in the early morning.
You rise through the wooded countryside on winding lanes. If you are lucky, you may get a glimpse of
Adam’s Peak in the distance to your right shortly before you reach the open uplands of Horton plains.
Arriving at the entrance gate, you start your walk. The trail is clear throughout, reaching 'Little World's End'
in 45 minutes, walking through woodland, then 15 minutes later, the greater drop of World’s End. On a
clear day, the view is incredible.
From this point, you can either return to the entrance the same way you came or continue on an open
pathway (no more shade) around hillsides until a short climb brings you to the ridge just above Baker’s
…
Falls, where a track leads down to the water. The falls are about 20 meters high, and are worth visiting if
you are a keen walker and prepared to do the longer circuit.
Returning to the entrance gate is along another open path and takes around 45 minutes. The entire walk
is around 8 km if you walk to World’s End and back, or around 9 km (5.6 miles) if you do the full circuit.
Ambewela Farm
The Ambewela area is located about 15 kilometers from Nuwaraeliya, and there are two farms here, New
Zealand Farms and Ambewela Farms, about 2 kilometers apart. The Ambewela farm has a large lawn
where rabbits, goats, pigs and, of course, cows grow, as well as a variety of vegetables. Here, you can
see horses grazing and strolling leisurely, cattle and sheep in groups on the lawn, very docile, and many
tourists will go there to take pictures. You can also drink fresh milk here at very favorable prices.

Turtle Hatchery
Dudley Perera's project has been underway since 1988. The main aim of the project is to monitor local sea
turtle activity and conserve the local nesting sites. We aim to make the public more aware of how
endangered these beautiful creatures are and just how important it is to help protect them before it is too
late.
One of the most important activities of the project is its hatchery. Within the sanctuary of the project,
collected and rescued eggs can hatch safely away from predators before being released into the sea at
night-time. In addition, a certain number from each hatching are kept back for a short period for 'head
starting' before release. The hatchery program is designed to maximize the number of hatchlings reaching
the sea and surviving through the critical stages of their early life. Only a few hatchlings from each batch
will ever make it to adulthood. Therefore, every nest-ground, every egg, every hatchling and every turtle is
crucial to the survival of the species. Unfortunately, sea turtles face many dangers
