Internshipisatemporarypositionwithemphasisonthejobtrainingratherthanmere
lyemployment.Itisaformaltrainingwithorganizationswhoseprimarypurposeist
oofferpracticalworkexperienceinaparticularoccupationtothepeoplewhoarene
winthatfield.Thepurposeofindustrialtrainingistoenableteachers,instructorsorl
ecturersassessformallyeducationalattainments,intelligence,personalityandcha
racteroftheirlearnersdevelopedduringthetrainingperiod.Inaddition,italsofacilit
atesintegrationofknowledgeandskillsfromschool,andcreateslinkagesbetweent
heindustryandthetraininginstitutions.
Inparticular,thisinternshipwasconductedatBudakaDistrictLocalGovernment.

Justificationofinternshiptraining.
Thepurposeofindustrialtrainingistoenableteachers,instructorsorlecturersassessforma
llyeducationalattainments,intelligence,aptitude,personalityandcharacteroftheirlearn
ersdevelopedduringthetrainingperiod.
Inaddition,italsofacilitatesintegrationofknowledgeandskillsfromschool.Itcreateslink
agesbetweentheindustry,oranyotherorganizationandthetraininginstitutions.
1.3THELOCATIONOFTHEORGANISATION
BudakadistrictislocatedintheEasternRegionofUganda.Itfallswithinthecurrent
greaterBukedisub-region.Bukedisub-
regioncomprisesofthedistrictsofBudaka,Butaleja,Busia,Tororo,KibukuandPal
lisa.BudakadistrictisborderedbyPallisadistrictintheNorth,Kibukudistrictinthe
West,MbaledistrictintheEastandButalejadistrictintheSouth.RiverNamatalafor
msanaturalboundarybetweenBudakaandMbaledistricts.Thedistricthasalandar
eaofapproximately410sqkmwithopenwaterandswampcoveringanareaofabout
132sqkm.
Thedistrictcomprisesoftwo(2)Countiesnamely;BudakaandIki-
IkiCounties,five(5)TownCouncilsnamely;Budaka,Naboa,Kachomo,Kamonk
oliandIki-
IkiTownCouncilsandfifteen(15)Subcountiesnamely;Budaka,Lyama,Tademer

i,Nansanga,Kamonkoli,Kachomo,Kadimukoli,Kaderuna,Iki-
Iki,Mugiti,Kakule,Kameruka,Kabuna,KakoliandKatiirasubcounties.Thelarge

forFY2006/2007anditsheadquartersaresituatedatNakibuluCell,BwaseWardin

ernance.Thecurrentdevelopmentthinkingapproachisthatdevelopmentprogram

1.7GOALS/OBJECTIVESOFTHEORGANISATION
Toensurethatinfrastructuralfacilitiesincludingfeederroads,watersuppliesandp
ublicbuildingsareavailableinallpartsofthedistrictatleastuptominimumNational
standards.
Topromoteadequateandaccessiblehealthservicestopeopleofthedistrictreducin
gchildmortalityrates,improvingmaternalhealthandcombatingHIV/AIDS.
Toensurethatfinancialmanagementperformanceissuesraisedbyresponsibleorg
ansareadequatelyaddressedintherequiredtimeframe.
Toidentifyandcollectsufficientrevenuetoensurethatservicedeliverystandardsar
emetasperarticles191,192and193ofthe1995ConstitutionoftheRepublicofUgan
da.

Toensurethateffectiveandefficientplanningcapacityofallstakeholdersisstrengt
hened.
Toincreasethelevelofeducationandliteracyinthedistrictbyincreasingthenetenro
llmentratiointheprimaryeducationto82%andliteracyrateto62%forbothmalesan

Toavailcommunitybasedservicestoallpeopleofthedistrictaccordingtotheirneed

upportstheNAADSprogramthataimsatimprovingthelifeoffarmersaswellaspro
vidingemploymenttothepeopleofBudaka.
BDLGimplementsandinterpretsadministrativepoliciesonbehalfofthecentralgo
vernmentbycommunicatingtoitssubordinates.

ThisfieldreportisaboutaninternshipIattainedfromBudakaDistrictlocalgovernm
entforaperiodofsixweeksintheplanningunit.It’soneoftheinstituterequirements
bythelearnerswhogoforindustrialtrainingatanyplaceofattachmentpurposelytoa
ctasasnapshotabouttheparticularactivities,observations,newknowledgeandex
perienceattainedduringtheexercise.itthereforeshowsthetruepictureofthepracti
calapproachrelatingtoeachcourseperusedbylearnersatanyinstitute.
Thischapterconsistsoftheactivitiesdone,dutiesorresponsibilities,newknowled
geandskills,relationshipwithinstructorsandchallengesfacedduringtheindustria
ltraining.

districtheadquartersandnoticedthatsomeworkerswerecominglateandotherswe
redodgingworkhedecidedtosendbackthoseworkerswhohadcomelatethatday.

r’stribe,culture,normsanddignitywiththevirtueofbeinghumanandbelievinginth

oductiondepartmentshouldinstallofficecomputers,printersandfurnituresoastoe
aseandimproveonefficiencyoftheworkers.
Notably,thereisalsoneedforfurthertrainingofstaffinordertoenhanceperformanc
eininformationtechnology;thiswillinturnenabletheproperrunningofITwork.
Onthesamenote,thereisalsoneedformotivationofthestaff,likeintermsofallowan
ces,lunchandotherbenefits.Consequently,workerswillbeinspiredbyself-
drivedemandtoproducetheirbestresultsfortheorganisation.
