I have been to this River and it is very mucky and rocky in places.

Please bring laced shoes (preferred hiking boots for ankle support). Do not wear anything else besides laced shoes!!!!!! Or the river will eat them. Wear pants but shorts will be ok (cargo style works great for pants and shorts, more places to put fossils). Will be on hands and knees at some points and it can get uncomfortable on knees. Wear a belt if you plan on using pants or shorts as fossil holders. Bring some kind of heavy duty backpack or shoulder bag. No buckets but you can if you want. Some of these fossils can get over 10 lbs and a bucket can be a pain in the backside. Digging tools not needed but any sort of flat sturdy tool, spackling or puddy knife, or smaller light shovel (not spade) will be good. The type of rock in the area is flakey. Bring small ziplock bags for smaller fossils and paper towels to wrap them when found. Not necessary but it does help to protect them from damage. If these directions seen confusing the Go N on Hwy 69 to Lindale and stay on 69 through Lindale all the way through Mineola. In Mineola stay straight and merge onto Hwy 154 and go towards Quitman. Pay attention to the road signs in Quitman and stay on 154 towards Sulfur Springs. I stay on 154 and go through town in Sulfur Springs because the downtown area is really neat and the court house is one of the best looking ones I have seen in Texas. Once past the town of Sulfur Springs the directions jump to number 16 on the Map quest directions to the camp site.
