Ringt angle triangle

I. Definition of right angle triangle

The right triangle is a triangle in which one of its angles is equal to 90°. In the
right triangle, the side opposite to the right angle is called the hypotenuse,
whereas the other two sides are called the legs of the right-angle triangle. The
legs are interchangeably called the base (adjacent side) and the height
(perpendicular side).

II. APPLY SIN, COS, TAN IN TRIANGLES

 Solution method
- Calculating angles when knowing two sides: using
trigonometric ratios
- Edge when knowing an edge and an angle: using trigonometric ratios
- Calculating angles when knowing three sides:
using the consequences of cosine's theorem
 Assignments
Example 1: A man is observing a pole of height 55 foot. According to his
measurement, pole cast a 23 feet long shadow. Can you help him to know the
angle of elevation of the sun from the tip of shadow?
Answer
Let x be the angle of elevation of the sun, then

(trigonometric ratio)

Or x = 67.30 degrees

Example 2:
To find the height of a tree, a person walks to a point 30 feet from the base of
the tree. She measures an angle of between a line of sight to the top of the
tree and the ground, as shown in Figure 13. Find the height of the tree.

Answer

We know that the angle of elevation is and the adjacent side is 30 ft long.
The opposite side is the unknown height.
The trigonometric function relating the side opposite to an angle and the side
adjacent to the angle is the tangent. So we will state our information in terms of
the tangent of , letting ℎ be the unknown height.

(trigonometric ratio)
solve for h

multiply
use a calculator
The tree is approximately 46 feet tall.
Example 3:
Given the triangle shown in Figure 3, find the value of cosα

Answer
The side adjacent to the angle is 15, and the hypotenuse of the triangle is 17, so:

(trigonometric ratio)

Example 4:
One of the cables that anchors the center of the London Eye Ferris wheel to the
ground must be replaced. The center of the Ferris wheel is 69.5 meters above
the ground, and the second anchor on the ground is 23 meters from the base of
the Ferris wheel. Approximately how long is the cable, and what is the angle of
elevation (from ground up to the center of the Ferris wheel)?
Answer
Using the information given, we can draw a right triangle. We can find the
length of the cable with the Pythagorean Theorem.

(quantitative system)

The angle of elevation is θ, formed by the second anchor on the ground and the
cable reaching to the center of the wheel. We can use the tangent function to
find its measure. Round to two decimal places.

(trigonometric ratio)

The angle of elevation is approximately and the length of the cable is 73.2
meters.
Example 5:
The first side of a right angled triangle is 200 m longer the second side. Its
hypotenuse has a length of 1000 m. Find the lengths of the two sides, the area
and the perimeter of this triangle.
Answer
Let the length of the second side be a = x.
The first side is 200 m longer the second side, hence it has a length b = x + 200
The hypotenuse h = 1000
Use the Pythagorean theorem to write

Substitute a, b and h by their algebraic expressions and/or values to write the

equation

Expand and simplify the terms in the above equation and write it in standard
form
Solve to obtain two solutions
x = 600 and x = - 800
We select the positive solution x = 600 since x is a length.
The second side is a = x = 600 m
The first side is b = x + 200 = 800 m

Area
Perimeter = a + b + h = 600 + 800 + 1000 = 2400 m
Example 6:
The A- line scale consists of two single ladders resting against each other. To be
safe, each single ladder creates a ground angle about If you want to create
an Ascale 2m high from the ground, each single ladder must be long how much?

Answer
Because of the isosceles triangle ABC, the high line AH is also the median line
or H is the midpoint of BC.
Considering triangle at H, we have:
( trigonometric ratio of sharp angles)

So the single ladder has a length 2,07m

III. CALCULATE THE ANGULAR MEASUREMENT OF A TRIANGLE
 Solution method.
- Formulate equalities expressed:
+The sum of the three corners of the triangle is equal to 180°.
+In the right triangle, the two sharp angles subordinate each other.
+The outer angle of the triangle is equal to the sum of two inner angles that a
re not adjacent to it.
- Then calculate the measurement of the angle to be found.

Answer

We have: (Two angles adjacent to compensation)

Considering we have:

(Three-angle sum theorem in a triangle)

We have again:

(The oute angle of the triangle is equal to the sum of two

inner angles that are not adjacent to it)
