Job Description: Information Manager

Person Specification: Information manager

Post title: Information Manager Responsible to: Operations Director External contacts: Heads of service in comparable libraries, members of the public, members of the profession, key stakeholders Internal contacts: Senior managers in other departments, all staff within the department Job purpose To be responsible for the policy, planning, organisation, management and promotion of information services. Representing the department within the organisation and externally, particularly within the information community. Main duties and responsibilities Lead and develop departmental planning and policy. Formulating strategic plans, aims and objectives for the department Promote the value of the department internally, so that senior managers are able to use the information service facilities to enhance their departments objectives within the organisation Establish and review library policies and procedures including legal compliance with copyright legislation and adhering to data protection and licensing constraints

Analyse and report on current issues and trends in library and information services Manage physical, traditional and electronic resources, so that the resources are used to best effect Develop and lead a team to ensure that the team has the skills for current and planned activities. Appraise staff performance regularly and act on areas where improvement is required Plan the information service budget and monitor budget spend, so that resources are used to best effect Providing advice and recommendations to management so that the information service impacts on the organisations goals Evaluating the quality of the service and ensuring cost-effectiveness Maintain and develop professional knowledge and skills Represent the service within a wider local, regional and national information world to ensure a high profile externally

Qualifications (desirable criteria) Qualification such as MBA Experience (essential criteria) Managing staff at a senior level. Performance management and staff appraisal Budget management and forecasting Project management Knowledge & Skills (essential criteria) Copyright, intellectual property rights and licensing issues Achievement in a senior management role including policy formulation, service planning, development and delivery. An up-to-date understanding of new and emerging technologies and the scope for exploiting them. Interpersonal, communication and networking skills.
