CHAPTER -I
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Focus of the Study


It is an institution,

There are various concept among the economists about the origin of the word "Bank."
The term bank derives from the Latin word" Bancus", which refers to the bench on
which the bankers would keep its money and his records. Some persons trace its
origin to the French word "Banque" and the Italian Word "Banco" which means a
bench for keeping lending and exchanging of money in the market.

Nepal Bangladesh Bank is one of the modern commercial bank in the history of
Nepal. To formulate and control monetary policy, Nepal Rastra Bank was established
as central bank in 2013B.S. under Nepal Rastra Bank Act 2012 B.S. Then after to
meet the increasing commercial activities inside the country another commercial
bank Rastrya Banijya Bank. Industrial Development Center (IDC) was set up in 2013
for industrial development and it was later converted to Nepal
Industrial
Development Corporation on 2016 B.S. Similarly, agriculture development bank
(ADB) was established on 7" Poush 2024 for the development for the
agriculture
sector of the country. As the government launch open liberal
policy on the year 2040
B.S. the first joint venture bank, Nepal
Bangladesh Bank (NBB) was established.

1.2Statement of the Problem
Under the prevailing insure the competitive cnvironment in the financial sector. Thc
financial institution face many difficultics to collect and mobilized their deposit funds
issucs:

b) Howto determine the expenditure pattern of NB bank?
c) Howto forecast the futurc trend of the deposit on NB Bank?

1.3 Objcctives of the Study

chooses the topic Total Deposit' for the fieldwork study with the purposes given
below:
a. To analyze the composition of total deposit pod Nepal Bangladesh Bank.
b. Toanalyze the interest bearing and non interest bearing deposit.
c. To evaluate the relationship between deposits with other variables.

1.4 Research Methodology


1.4.1 Research Design
Project work design helps to collect right quantum of accurate data. Here. researcher
has applied descriptive and analytical research design as it deals with description of
situation and interpretation of data.
1.4.2 Data Collection Method

In order to collect data only secondary sources of data and infonation were used as
data were found generally, in secondary sources. In this case, the secondary data
concerning the actual financial position of the bank was collected from network the
records, and the annual reports of the bank as well as balance sheet. Beside these
sources information were derived through the literatures concerned with the bank
investment, deposit etc. were collected from different kinds of books. journals and
newspaper. As such research programmed has been considered as specific one.
1.4.3 Data Presentation and Analysis Tools
Various statistical tools were used afler compilation. The data
was process, tabulated
and graphed to analyze and achieve objective of' the study.

1.5 Limitations of the Study


The criteria. which are not covered by this
study, are the limitation and the things
assumed as neutral while studying are the assumptions of this study. Here it
was
consulted as belter to specify such subjects as follows:
a. The study has been covered only the Butwal
branch and only 4 years' data
from 2065/066 to 2069/070.
b. Thefieldwork is mostly based on secondary data. So its effectiveness
depends
upon the validity of the data provided by the bank.
c. This study has been used only the
statistical tools to analyze the data.
d. This study deals only with the total
deposit but not with the other areas of the
bank.

DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS


2.1 Data Presentation and Analysis
After the collection of necessary data and information, it should be presented and
processed vith the help of diflerenm relevant tools. They are geometrical figures like
points, lines, ba'S, squares, circleS, cubes, pictures, naps, charts ctc. which we can
find in newsyapers, magazines. journals, advertisement ete. In this chapter, we study
the presentation of data on the basis of tables, diagrams, graphs and figures.

In the above table and
trend line, we found that the

2.1.2 Interest Bearingand Non Interest Bearing Deposits


Every bank hus two of deposit, interest bearing and non interesting bearing. Interest
bearing deposil are those type of deposit where the bank has to pay interest to the
depositors and for non-interest bearing deposit bunk does not have to pay nay interest
to the depositors only facilities are provided. The totals of interest bearing deposit and
non interest bearing deposit of Nepal Bangladesh Bank in different years are shown
below:

Fiscal Year

In the above table and figure it clearly shows that the


interest bearing and non-interest
bearing and non-interest bearing deposit of Nepal Bangladesh
Bankin past 5 years. It
shows that the interest bearing deposit has been
increasing
up to fiscal year 2065/066

and than it decreasecd slightly by Rs. 220.82 million and Rs.2340.89 million in the
fiseal ver 2066/067 and 2067/068 respectively. But it has slightly increased by Rs.
1083.13 million in the liscal year 2068/069. In the FY 2065/066 and 2066/067 in
decieascd by Rs. 96.72 million and Rest. 1|1.76 million respectively. Again it
increascd in the FY 2068/069 reaching Rs. 3424.69 million and decreased to Rs.
3424.69 nillion and decreased to Rs.3012.93 million in the FY 2069/070.
2.1.3Total Deposit of Nepal Bangladesh Bank in Different Years
Deposit trend is the accumulation of deposit in different years. Deposit trend helps to
analyze the bank's performance in terms of deposit collection. Deposit trend also
helps todepict theefficiency of bank and customer's faith towards thebank.

Above table and tigure shows that the total deposit composition from the fiscal year
2065/066 to 2069/070. In the year 2065/066, the current deposit was 2880.65 million.
It become 2850.97 million in the year 2066/067. However, in the year 2067/068,
current deposit is decreasing. It decreased to 2703.82 million. In the year 2068/069, it
increased to 3034 million and in the year2069/070 it again decreased to 2688.97
million. Saving deposit is in increasing trend. In the year 2066/067, total saving
deposit was 4150.19 million and it increased to 4917. 14 million, 4972.06 million,
5229.72 million and 5994.12 million respectively in the year 2066/067, 2067/068,
2068/069, 2069/070 respectively.

In the year 2065/066. the total fixed deposit was 5278.27 million, in the year
2066/067, it decreased to 3719.20 million. However, in the year 2067/068 and
2068/069, again it decreased to 2446.85 million and 2552.54 million respectively.
However in the year 2069/070 it slightly increased to 23 10.57 million, but there is no
consistency in fixed deposit.
Other deposit has been changed in great amount. Here, margin
deposit is also
included in other deposit. In the year 2065/066, other deposits are 470.40
million. It is
also in increasing trend. It has increased to 403.3
million in the year 2067/068.
However, in the year 2067/068, it has increased to 438.74
million and again decreased
to 390.68 millionand 323.97 million in
the year 2068/069 and 2069/070 respectively.

According oabove table and figure we can sce that the total loan amounts are in an

increasing 1rend initially than it went down in the year 2065/066 and it is the
increasing trend then alier.

Above table and figure it shows the change in the investment of Nepal Bangladesh
Bank in dillerent years. The investment increased during the first 2 years up to
2065/066 and then afler 2066/067 it decreased for 2 years and it again increased
during the year 2068/069. The investment is always less than loans and advances
except in the year 2067/068 where investment is slightly more. The above clearly
reflects the relationship between investment and loans and advances.

2.1.5 Relationship of Deposit with Investment of Nepal Bangladesh Bank


Deposit isa liability for a bank. Interest must be given to the depositors along with the
deposited amount. To give interest one must earn. Investment is one of the sources of
incone for a bank. Huge amount of fund collected from the deposit is
spent in the
investment to generate income. Here total investment consists of
investments and
placements.

2.1.6 Relationship of Deposit with Total Credits of Nepal Bangladesh Bank
The main source where the deposits accepted are utilized is the total credit.

2069/070. Nepal Bangladesh Bank has been able to
make sufficient deposit
collection. It has qualified staff to handle the deposit
collected and invest it in
productive sector. Last year (2066/067) the bank has soon title
slackness in deposit
collection loan and advance and investment compared to the
fiscal year 2068/069 and
2069/070 Nepal Bangladesh Bank current position is good but due
to adverse effect of
doggish economic condition and uncertain political
stability the Bank is sutiering
from slow growth.. In conclusion Nepal
Bangladesh Bank is functioning effectively
and elliciently.

3.3Recommendation
From the available data. Rescarcher have
analyzed and interpret them to get result but
now this sludy is going to provide some
suggestion and recommendation that maybe
acceptable to the Bank Manager as an input to their decision making,

maintain the level of deposit.

There is also Some problem in deposit mobilization the bank is not utilizing its deposit
properly. The bank should search the various productive profitable sectors to mobilize
its deposit.
