In the affirmative, the verb ends in -s in the third person (he/ she/ it).
Example: She does her homework every day.
I often go to the cinema.
They live in London.
In negative, we add do not (don’t) before the verb for I, You, We, They and
does not (doesn’t) for she/ he/ it. In the negative, the verb doesn’t end in -s.
Example: She doesn’t do her homework every day.
I don’t often go to the cinema.
They don’t live in London.

In a question, we put do at the beginning of the sentence for I, You, We, They. We
put does for She/ He/ It. In a question, the verb doesn’t end in -s.
Example: Do you play football? Yes, I do.
Does your brother work in a bank? No, he doesn't.

B Use:
We use the present simple to describe something that we do every day or
very often, a habit or a permanent situation.
Example: I get up at 6.00 every day. (a habit)
We live in a flat. (a permanent situation)
The sun sets in the west. (general truth)
C Time expressions:
We often use time expressions with the present simple such as:
Every day/ week/ month/ year.
On Mondays/ Tuesdays ….
On Mondays morning/ afternoon ….
Always/ usually/ often/ sometimes/ never
Once a week/ twice a week/ three times a week …..
D Spelling rules (3rd person singular)
We usually add -s after the verb.
walk -> walks read -> reads
For verbs ending in -x; -s/ss; -o/ -ch/ -sh/ -z we add -es
go -> goes wash -> washes
fix -> fixes miss -> misses
For verbs ending in a consonant +-y, we change the -y to -ies
carry -> carries study -> studies
For verbs ending in a vowel + -y, we add -s
play -> plays buy -> buys
Irregular Verb: have -> has
** Notes:
We don’t add -s after she/he/ it in the negative form.
He doesn’t likes vegetables.
We make questions by using do/ does + S + base form:
Do you like apples? Yes, I do.
What does she do on Mondays? She plays the piano.
