Pupils
July 26, 2018

Introduction

The multi-Factored Assessment Tool (MFAT) is a screening

tool intended to gather information on learner’s strengths, needs,
learning styles, and other educational concerns. It shall be conducted
in all schools a month after the beginning of each school year. This is
a one-time assessment administered to Grade I learners enrolled in
the regular schools who may exhibit developmental advancement or
delays or with manifestations of learning disability. It is an activity-
based assessment covering the five domains of learning namely:
Cognitive Domain; Communication Domain; Socio-Emotional Domain;
Motor Domain; Daily Living Skills Domain.

The MFAT aims to identify the strengths and weaknesses of

learners in Grade I which would require appropriate intervention/s
and proper placement. It will also assist teachers for instructional
planning and educational placement of learners.

To satisfy the main goal of MFAT which is to identify

learners with special educational needs (LSENs) who need education
services and/or medical/allied services, Bilogo Elementary School
conducted the said assessment and consolidated the result.

Activities Undertaken

Last May 2-4,2018 our district conducted a District Roll-out of

Teachers on Multi-Factored Assessment Tools(MFAT). In the
seminar our speaker explained and discussed what, how and why
MFAT is to be conducted. They trained us so that we can able to
execute it well with our pupils in school.

To ensure the confidentiality of the assessment, the teachers

safeguard the assessment tools, materials and results. The MFAT
Tool was kept and deposited in a safe place.

Days before the said
assessment the teachers ensure that materials per activity are
complete, properly labelled and arranged. The teachers also ensure
that the room is organize and there is enough space for each activity.

During the administration of the test, the teacher ensure

that materials are easily accessed and will not distract the learner.
The assessors used appropriate language depending on the preferred
language of the learner. Recorded time started and ended per
activity. Made sure that the child is comfortable. Explained and gave
instructions properly. Recorded learners’ response. At the end of the
assessment the we thanked the learners.

After the assessment the assessors summarized the result

for intervention and recommendation. Then, the materials used were
properly packed and kept in the designated or safe place.

Conducting this MFAT in Grade 1 is helpful and effective

way of assessing the ability and skills of each pupil. The test
administration of the MFAT was said to be successful.
