LEARNING PLAN
COURSE TITLE: SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY (STS)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course deals with interaction between Science and Technology and social, cultural, political and economic context that shape and are shaped by
them. (CMO No. 20 series of 2013). This interdisciplinary engage students to confront the realities brought about by Science and Technology in Society. Such realities pervade
the personal, the public, and the global aspects of our living and are integral to human development. Scientific knowledge and technological development happen in the
context of society with all its socio-political, cultural, economic and philosophical underpinning at play. This course seeks to instill reflective knowledge in the students that
they are able to live the good life and display ethical decision making in the face of scientific and technological advancement.
COURSE CREDIT: 3 Units
CONTACT HOURS: 54 Hours
PREREQUISITES: None
PLACEMENT: 1st Semester
UNIVERSITY VISION: A model institution of learning where relevant knowledge is acquired and skills are developed in response to the needs of the global community.

UNIVERSITY MISSION: To provide equitable access to learning through relevant, innovative, industry-sensitive and environmental-conscious academic program and services.

COLLEGE VISION: The College of Arts and Sciences in visualizing an environment that supports national and global collaboration promotes equality of
active learning and one which ensures thoughtful stewardship of resource.

COLLEGE MISSION: As an intellectual core of Arellano University, the central mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to impart fundamental knowledge in the Arts,
Natural Science, as well as Humanities using integrative approaches. It has also the unique responsibility of providing Liberal Arts degree programs for
its majors through transformative learning.

ARELLANO GRADUATE ATTRIBUTE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES:


a. Competence Sufficient knowledge, understanding and skills that will able him/her to act reasonable in a wide variety of situations.
b. Humility Being able to let go of oneself and be courteous and respected of others.

c. Integrity Capability of doing the right things in a reliable and upright manner because he/she has the wholeness of character.

d. Equity Attribute at looking at things in a fair and impartial way towards all concerned, based on the principles of evenhanded dealings.

e. Fortitude Strength and courage to face adversity or difficulty.

f. Stewardship Wise and responsible management of resources.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: At the end of the program the students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate pedagogical and professional competence as well as professional leadership
2. Display array of knowledge, skills and understanding that reflect professional competencies
3. Manifest professional and social and ethical responsibility
4. Perform excellent services related to professional, societal and environmental context
5. Develop sense of commitment to work, community and clientele
COURSE OUTCOMES: At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1. Articulate the impacts of science, and technology on society, specifically Philippine society.
2. Explain how science and technology affect society and the environment and its role in nation-building.
3. Analyze the human condition in order to deeply reflect and express philosophical ramifications that are meaningful to the student as part of the society.
4. Imbibe the importance of science and technology in the preservation of the environment and the development of the Filipino nation
5. Creatively present the importance and contributions of science and technology to society.
