Mathematics Month
School Year 2023-2024
INTRODUCTION

Every year, Iba National High School conducts activities regarding the
Mathematics month to be held in the month of January. It is facilitated by the
different Mathematics teachers with the help of the officers.

ORGANIZATION

The organization is composed of the Mathematics teachers headed by Mr.


Benjamin C. Lizarondo, the Head Teacher III of Mathematics Department, and
Mathematics club officers headed by the adviser, Mr. Adam Bill J. Carpio. The
teaching staff is divided into different events.

RUBIK’S CUBE COMPETITION

The Rubik’s Cube was invented in 1974 by Ernõ Rubik, a Hungarian architecture
professor. Rubik later used the Cube as a learning exercise to teach his students
about 3-dimensional spaces.

Guidelines for the Rubik’s Cube Contest

1. The competition is open to all students of Iba National High School and will
be divided by grade levels.
2. There are 3 rounds and each round will increase the number of cubes that
they are required to solve.
3. Ranking system will determine the winners of the event.
4. If a participant did not finished the cube, he will be placed last on the
ranking
5. The participants who got the lowest rank will be declared as the winners.
6. The winners per grade level will compete to determine the Overall
Champion.
7. In case of a tie, the student who got the lowest time will be declared as
the winner.

SUDOKU COMPETITION

Sudoku is one of the most popular puzzle games of all time. The goal of Sudoku is
to fill a 9×9 grid with numbers so that each row, column and 3×3 section contain
all of the digits between 1 and 9. As a logic puzzle, Sudoku is also an excellent
brain game.

Guidelines for the Sudoku Contest

1. The competition is open to all students of Iba National High School and will
be divided by grade levels.
2. The student will be given a sudoku puzzle to solve within a certain amount
of time.
3. The sudoku puzzle comes with different varieties like, classic sudoku puzzle,
even/odd sudoku puzzle, killer, sudoku puzzle and many more.
4. There are 3 rounds and each round comes with a different variety.
5. The participant who solved the sudoku puzzle correctly with the least
amount of time will be the winner.

DAMATH COMPETITION

Damath is a two-player educational board game combining the board game


"DieMath" and math. It is used as a teaching tool for both elementary and high
school mathematics. Every piece has a corresponding number and each even
(white) square on board has a mathematical symbol.

Guidelines for the Damath Contest

1. The competition is open to grade 7-10 students of Iba National High


School.
2. Grade 7 will compete for integer damath, grade 8 for rational damath,
grade 9 for radical damath and grade 10 for polynomial damath.
3. Round robin system will be applied as the mode of the competition.
4. Tossing of coin will determine the player to have the first move.
5. A player is not allowed to make a pass, and two players take turns in
moving a piece.
6. The game's duration will be 10 minutes and each player have 60 seconds
to execute a move.
7. Players should make moves in a forward direction, except when taking a
chip or if a chip is already in 'dama'.
8. The points are earned depending on the corresponding sum, difference,
product or quotient, and the numbers on the chips.
9. The game ends either after the 20-minute game period or when a player
has no more chips to move or when an opponent's chip is cornered.
10. The players' remaining chip or chips are added to their respective scores,
and if the chip is a 'dama', then the score is also doubled.
11. The player with the greater accumulated total score becomes the winner
of the game.
12. The students who got the highest scores will be declared as the winner.

MATH QUIZ BEE

January 20 (MTAP Style Quiz Bee)

It is one of the events held in schools to test the intellectual capabilities of


students in different subjects such as science, mathematics, social science,
current events, and general knowledge. There will be 2 types of quiz bee on the
event: TRADITIONAL QUIZ BEE and MTAP STYLE QUIZ BEE.

Guidelines for the Traditional Quiz Bee:

1. Two students per section will be allowed to join the quiz bee.
2. There are three rounds for the quiz bee. First is the easy round which is in
multiple choice and each correct answer is equivalent to 1 point. Next is
the average round which is in identification and every correct answer is
equivalent to 2 points. Last is the difficult round which is also in
identification and every correct answer is equivalent to 3 points.
3. There is a time limit based on the difficulty of the questions.
4. The students who got the highest scores will be declared as the winner.

Guidelines for the MTAP Style Quiz Bee:

1. Three students per section will be allowed to join the quiz bee.
2. Participants will be given a questionnaire to answer within 1 hour.
3. The scores of the top two students per section will be recorded to
determine the rankings.
4. In case of a tie, the facilitator will rely on the score of the third student.
5. The section who got the highest score will win the quiz bee.

MATH JINGLE CONTEST

The first contest was the Jingle Writing Contest wherein the students are going to
make a jingle about Mathematics and perform it to the crowd and the judges.
The said contest was open to all the students and will start on January 17-20,
2022.

Guidelines for the Math Jingle Contest

1. All students of Iba National High School are qualified to join the contest.
2. Each section is required to submit one or more entries.
3. Each group shall consist of a minimum of 15 students and maximum of 20
students.
4. The jingle must be an original composition written in English, Tagalog or
both.
5. The jingle must run within 5 – 7 minutes (including entrance and exit).
6. Costumes, props, live accompaniment and recorded music are allowed.
7. One point would be deducted every exceeding minute from the allotted
time to the total average score.
8. The winners will be chosen by the panel of judges based on the following
criteria.

Criteria for Judging

A. Lyrics – 25 %

B. Melody and Harmony – 25%

C. Costume and Make – up – 20%

D. Volume and Blending of Voice – 20 %

E. Audience Impact – 10%

9. There will be three (3) winners from each grade level.


10. The champions from each level will compete to be the overall champion.
11. The judges ‘decision is final and irrevocable.

CULMINATING ACTIVITY OF THE MATHEMATICS MONTH


FACILITATORS: All Math Teachers and Math Club Officers with the assistance of
AP Teachers

DATE and TIME: January 30, 2023 9:00 am onwards

The culminating activity is the time to recognize the promising individuals or


groups that showcase their wit and talents throughout the events. The activity
will award the winners of the different events while the champions of the Math
Jingle Contest will compete for the over-all champion of the said events. The
flow of the program is as follows;
