1. What are some risks that people take? Why do they take them?

In my opinion, some risks that people take are extreme sports, adventure travel, mountaineering.
Firstly, Extreme sports can be activities such as skydiving, bungee jumping, rock climbing,…
People join in these activities because the thrill and excitement they provide. as well as the sense
of accomplishment and conquering fear to overcome one’s limits,

Secondly, Adventure travel mean to travel to remote or exotic location, Or undertake expeditions
to mountainous or highland areas. People undertake these adventures to experience new
cultures, connect with nature, and challenge themselves both mentally and physically.

Lastly, Climbers are motivated by the challenge of conquering peaks, exploring remote
landscapes, and testing their skills and endurance in extreme environments.

2. What kinds of risks are good to take? What kinds are not? Why?

Taking risks can be a crucial part of personal and professional growth, but not all risks are
created equal. Some risks can lead to valuable opportunities and learning experiences, while
others can have negative consequences. Here's a breakdown of the types of risks that are
generally considered beneficial and those that are not, along with reasons why:

Good Risks:

1. Informed Risks: Taking risks after conducting thorough research and analysis can be
beneficial. When you have a clear understanding of the potential outcomes and
implications of your actions, you're better equipped to make informed decisions.
2. Calculated Risks: Calculated risks involve weighing the potential rewards against the
potential drawbacks. These risks often have a favorable risk-to-reward ratio, where the
potential benefits outweigh the potential losses.
3. Personal Growth Risks: Risks that push you out of your comfort zone and facilitate
personal growth are typically good risks to take. These risks can help you develop new
skills, build confidence, and expand your horizons.
4. Innovation Risks: In the business world, taking risks in pursuit of innovation and
creativity can lead to breakthroughs and competitive advantages. Embracing innovation
risks can help organizations stay ahead in rapidly changing markets.

Bad Risks:

1. Reckless Risks: Risks taken without proper consideration or evaluation of potential

consequences are generally not advisable. Reckless risks can lead to significant losses,
both personally and professionally.
2. Unethical Risks: Risks that involve compromising ethical principles or violating laws and
regulations should always be avoided. Even if such risks seem to offer short-term gains,
the long-term repercussions can be severe, including legal penalties and damage to
reputation.
3. Unnecessary Risks: Taking risks for the sake of taking risks, without a clear purpose or
potential benefit, is not prudent. It's essential to assess whether the potential rewards
justify the risk and whether alternative, less risky approaches are available.
4. Undiversified Risks: Putting all your resources or investments into one high-risk venture
without diversifying your portfolio can expose you to unnecessary financial risk.
Diversification helps mitigate the impact of potential losses.

In summary, good risks are those that are informed, calculated, promote personal growth, and
support innovation. Conversely, bad risks are reckless, unethical, unnecessary, or undiversified.
Understanding the nature of risks and making decisions accordingly can help individuals and
organizations navigate uncertainty and maximize opportunities for success.

3. Do you have any dreams or goals that might require you to take risks? What are they? What
are some of the risks you might have to take to achieve them?

4. What careers do you think involve a lot of risk? Why?

In my opinion, I think mining involve a lot of risk because:

Mining involves a lot of risk due to several factors inherent in the nature of the industry:
1. Hazardous Environments: Mining operations often take place in challenging
environments such as underground mines, open-pit mines, or quarries. These
environments can be characterized by confined spaces, unstable rock formations, and
the presence of toxic gases, all of which pose significant risks to the health and safety of
miners.
2. Geological Hazards: Mining exposes workers to geological hazards such as cave-ins,
collapses, and landslides. The extraction of minerals and ores can destabilize the
surrounding rock structures, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries due to rockfalls
or ground instability.
3. Explosives and Blasting: The use of explosives for blasting rocks and accessing mineral
deposits introduces the risk of accidental explosions. Improper handling or storage of
explosives can lead to catastrophic accidents, causing injuries, fatalities, and damage to
infrastructure.
4. Heavy Machinery and Equipment: Mining operations rely heavily on large and
powerful machinery and equipment such as drills, loaders, haul trucks, and crushers. The
operation of these machines involves risks of mechanical failures, collisions, and
accidents, especially in challenging terrains or adverse weather conditions.
5. Health Hazards: Miners are exposed to various health hazards associated with mining
activities, including respiratory diseases from exposure to dust and toxic fumes,
musculoskeletal injuries from heavy lifting and repetitive tasks, and long-term health
effects from exposure to hazardous substances.
6. Environmental Impact: Mining can have significant environmental impacts, including
habitat destruction, soil erosion, water pollution, and deforestation. These environmental
consequences not only pose risks to ecosystems and biodiversity but also to the health
and well-being of nearby communities.
7. Regulatory Compliance: Mining operations are subject to stringent health, safety, and
environmental regulations aimed at protecting workers, minimizing environmental
impact, and ensuring responsible mining practices. Compliance with these regulations
requires significant investment in safety measures, training programs, and monitoring
systems.

Overall, the combination of challenging working conditions, geological hazards, heavy

machinery, health risks, and environmental impact makes mining a high-risk industry. Effective
risk management, comprehensive safety protocols, and ongoing training are essential to
mitigate these risks and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of miners and surrounding
communities.
5. Why do people take risks in their careers? Is this a good thing? Why or why not?

personal growth, advancement, or financial gain. Risk-taking can lead to new
opportunities, challenges, and professional development. It can also be driven by
a desire for innovation, excitement, or the need to break out of routine.
2. Is this a good thing? Why or why not?
 Whether risk-taking in one's career is considered a good thing depends on the
context and the outcomes. In some cases, taking calculated risks can result in
significant rewards, such as career advancement, increased financial success, or
personal fulfillment. It can foster creativity, resilience, and adaptability, which are
valuable traits in today's dynamic work environment.
 However, not all risks lead to positive outcomes. Some risks may result in failure,
setbacks, or even harm to one's career and well-being. It's essential to weigh the
potential benefits against the potential consequences and make informed
decisions. Additionally, excessive or reckless risk-taking without proper
consideration or preparation can be detrimental.
 Overall, moderate and strategic risk-taking can be beneficial for career growth
and success, but it's crucial to balance ambition with caution and to evaluate risks
thoughtfully.

1. Can money buy happiness?

I think money can buy happiness.

1. Meeting Basic Needs: Having enough money to cover basic needs such as food,
shelter, and healthcare can contribute to a sense of security and well-being.
When individuals don't have to worry about meeting their basic needs, they can
focus more on pursuing activities and experiences that bring them joy.
2. Access to Opportunities: Money provides access to opportunities that can
enhance happiness, such as travel, education, and leisure activities. Being able to
explore new places, learn new skills, and engage in enjoyable experiences can
increase overall life satisfaction.
3. Reduced Stress: Financial stability can lead to reduced stress and anxiety. When
individuals have enough money to cover expenses and unexpected emergencies,
they can feel more secure and less stressed about their financial situation, which
positively impacts their mental health and happiness.
4. Freedom and Autonomy: Money provides individuals with a greater sense of
freedom and autonomy in making choices that align with their values and goals.
Having financial resources allows people to pursue their passions, make
meaningful contributions, and live life on their own terms, which can lead to
greater fulfillment and happiness.

access to better healthcare, housing, and amenities. When individuals can afford
to live in safe and comfortable environments, access quality healthcare, and enjoy
leisure activities, they are more likely to experience higher levels of happiness and
well-being.

While money can contribute to happiness by addressing material needs and providing
access to opportunities, it's essential to recognize that true happiness is multifaceted
and influenced by various factors beyond financial wealth. Relationships, personal
growth, sense of purpose, and mental well-being are equally important for overall
happiness and life satisfaction. Therefore, while money can buy certain aspects of
happiness, it is not the sole determinant of one's overall happiness and well-being.

2. How much money do you think people really need in order to be happy? Explain.

Yes, your life would likely be different if you had more or less money, especially if you're
currently facing difficult circumstances. Here's how:

could afford basic necessities without struggling, such as housing, food, and
healthcare.
 More financial resources could provide opportunities for personal growth and
development. You might be able to pursue education or training that could lead
to better job prospects and career advancement.
 Having additional funds could also afford you the ability to invest in experiences
and activities that bring joy and fulfillment, such as travel, hobbies, or spending
quality time with loved ones.
 Increased financial stability might allow you to plan for the future with more
confidence, whether it's saving for retirement, purchasing a home, or starting a
family.

 On the other hand, if you had less money, you might face greater challenges in
meeting your basic needs. This could lead to increased stress, anxiety, and
uncertainty about the future.
 Financial constraints might limit your access to opportunities for education,
healthcare, and personal development, potentially hindering your ability to
improve your circumstances.
 With fewer financial resources, you may have to make difficult choices and
sacrifices, such as cutting back on expenses, foregoing leisure activities, or
delaying important life goals.
 It's possible that less money could also impact your social and emotional well-
being, as financial struggles can strain relationships and contribute to feelings of
isolation or inadequacy.

In difficult circumstances, such as facing financial hardship, the impact of money on your life can
be profound. However, it's essential to remember that while financial resources can influence
certain aspects of your life, they're not the sole determinants of your overall well-being and
happiness. Building resilience, seeking support, and focusing on what you can control are also
crucial factors in navigating challenging circumstances and finding fulfillment in life.

Sudden wealth and earning more money from a better job are two distinct ways of acquiring increased

reduces the burden on my parents.
Secondly, It helps me have more confidence in myself. When I receive money, it means I have
more money in me. At that time, I feel more confident because I could encounter some
problems suddenly in my life, and then it would be easier for me to handle problems related to
money.
Lastly, it gives me opportunities to improve. It means money received can be driving force for
personal growth and progress. It can be invested in education, built skills, or business ventures,
opening new opportunities for progress and success.
In conclusion, receiving money is very enjoyable because it helps me solve life’s needs, gives me
more confidence, and gives me opportunities to improve.
UNIT 8
1. What can we learn from success and failure?

From success: Success often validates our efforts, skills, and abilities. It reinforces the importance of
hard work, perseverance, and dedication in achieving our goals.

Firstly, we can learn confidence and motivation. Success boosts confidence and motivation.
Achieving goals reinforces our belief in our abilities and encourages us to set and pursue even
higher aspirations. Success can serve as a reminder that hard work and perseverance pay off.

From failure: Firstly, identifying weaknesses. Failure exposes areas of weakness or inadequacy. It
reveals flaws in our strategies, skills, or decision-making processes. Recognizing these
weaknesses is the first step toward improvement and growth.

Secondly, developing a resilient mindset. Failure helps us develop a resilient mindset by

reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. It teaches us to bounce back from
disappointments, setbacks, and failures with renewed determination and optimism.

Lastly, getting stronger from setbacks. Failure helps us become stronger. Like lifting weights to
build muscles, facing failure strengthens our ability to handle tough times. It's like doing push-
ups: the more we practice bouncing back from failure, the stronger and more resilient we
become. This strength helps us face challenges with courage and determination.

2. What are some of the different ways a person can be successful?

There are numerous ways a person can achieve success, and it can vary greatly depending on
individual goals, values, and circumstances. Here are some different avenues through which a

physical, mental, and emotional wellness. This may include adopting a healthy lifestyle,
prioritizing self-care and mental health, managing stress effectively, and fostering positive
relationships.

professional milestones, such as promotions, advancements, or recognition for outstanding
performance. Career success may also involve finding fulfillment and satisfaction in one's chosen
field or making a positive impact on others through work.

say she is a successful person ? Because

5. What things do you think are more important than success?

While success is often valued and pursued by many, several things are considered more
important:

Firstly, Relationships: Strong, supportive relationships with family, friends, and loved ones are
often seen as more important than success. Nurturing these connections, fostering intimacy, and
building bonds of trust and love contribute significantly to overall well-being and happiness.

Secondly, Balance and Harmony: Striving for balance and harmony in all aspects of life is vital.
Balancing work, relationships, personal interests, and leisure time leads to a more fulfilling and
sustainable lifestyle, transcending the narrow definition of success.

Lastly, Health and Well-being: Maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health is
paramount and takes precedence over success. Without good health, achievements lose their
significance, making it essential to prioritize self-care, balance, and overall well-being.

Ultimately, while success may be desirable, it is these fundamental aspects of life that truly
enrich and give meaning to our existence. They form the foundation of a well-lived life, guiding
our choices and priorities beyond the pursuit of mere success.
6. Give an example of a time when you succeeded after failing at first. What did you learn from
your mistakes?
My hobby is eating and especially cakes. So, my passion for cakes is very big and to satisfy that
passion I try learning how to make cakes. The first time I learned how to make cakes was when I
was 10. At that time, I was a child, so I didn’t have much experience in making cakes and My
parents were very busy training me. So, I decided to learn it on the internet. I found information
and searched for baking methods then I made it by the information that I found. Because it was
my first time, I failed when my cake tasted bad and burned. At that time, I was quite sad but I
wasn’t discouraged. Thanks to this failure I recognized my shortcomings and had more
experience for the late time. That failure in first time gave me more perseverance to learn how to
make cakes. It strengthens my spirit and helps me to have more power to do it again. Then I
tried hard to make cakes for the best result from what I learned from my failures. And after 5
failures, I made a cake perfectly for everyone enjoyed it. They commented that the cake was
delicious, and I was very happy for I done it successful.
