FIRST DRIVE – TOYOTA C-HR
Toyota’s all new C-HR (Coupe High-Rider) is a new entry to the crossover market, which blurs the line between a standard hatch and a
jacked up SUV. The first thing you notice about the new C-HR is the styling. Angular and bold, the coupe-like top half, which features a
swooping roof line and hidden rear door handles, is blended with a more muscular lower half which adds serious road presence for its
surprisingly compact size. For performance fans, the engine options aren’t much to shout about with a 1.2-litre petrol turbo or 1.8-litre
petrol/electric hybrid to choose from, neither of which offers much in the way of an adrenaline rush. The chassis is based on Toyota’s
new platform which will be seen in other new models and offers good driving dynamics with a well controlled ride that should at least
make the C-HR fun to chuck around the twisties. The interior is also pretty cool, with an eight-inch audio display touchscreen
dominating the dash and a host of clever gadgets and driver aids to play with, too. It may not be the last word in performance, but if
you fancy a fun, funky and frugal alternative to the usual raft of hatchbacks, this could be worth a look!
