An American arrived in Kenya with 20,000 Euros. He converted all the Euros to
Kenya shillings at the bank. He spent Ksh 2510200 while in Kenya and converted the
remaining Kenya shillings into US dollars at the bank. Find the amount in Dollars that
he received. (4mks)

6. The size of each interior angle of a regular polygon is four times the size of the
exterior angle. Find the number of sides of the polygon. (3mks)

7. A shopkeeper made a loss of 20% by selling a trouser at Sh. 960. What profit would
he have made if he had sold it at sh.1500 (3mks)

8. A student spent of his pocket money on stationeries, a third on food-stuffs

9. Two bells ring at intervals of 35 and 42 minutes respectively. The bells ring together
at 8:48 a.m. Determine the time when the bells will ring together again. (3mks)

10. A two-digit number is 18 more than the number formed by reversing the digits. If the
sum of the digits is 10, find the number. (4mks)

11. A group of 10 soldiers set off with enough food to last 7 days. After 4 soldiers
deserted, how many more days will the food last for the remaining soldiers?

15. In the given figure, GJ is parallel to HI, FH is parallel to CJ. Angle AGB = 360 and
angle AHC = 530. Find angle GCJ. (3mks)

16. The length of an arc of a circle is 8.8cm. If the arc subtends an angle 144 ° at the
centre, calculate;
(a) the radius of the circle (Take π=22 /7 ¿ (2mks)

(b) the area enclosed by the arc and the radii (2mks)

Answer any FIVE questions in this section

17. The corner points A, B, C and D of a ranch are such that B is 8 km directly East of A
and C is 6 km from B on a bearing of 30o. D is 7 km from C on a bearing of 300o.
(a) Using a scale of 1 cm to represent 1 km, draw a diagram to show the position
of A, B, C and D. (4mks)

(b) Use the scale to determine the;


(i) compass bearing of A from D. (1mk)

(ii) distance BD in kilometres. (2mks)

(iii) bearing of D from B (1mk)

(iv) perimeter of the ranch in kilometers. (2mks)

18. A cylindrical tank of diameter 3.6m and height 2.5m internally is two-thirds
full of juice.

(a) Calculate the volume of the juice in litres. (3mks)

(b) The juice is packed in small packets measuring 8cm by 5cm by 12cm. A
packet retails at Ksh. 40. Calculate;

(i) the volume of each packet in cm3 (2mks)

(ii) the number of full packets obtained (3mks)

(iii) the amount of money realized from the sale of the juice (2mks)

19. (a) Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct triangle PQR in which
QR = 5cm, PR = 7cm and angle PRQ = 105o (4mks)

(b) Measure PQ and Angle PQR (2mks)

(c) From P, drop a perpendicular to meet QR produced at S and measure PS.


Hence, calculate the area of triangle PQR (4mks)

20. An aircraft left Nairobi at 1945hrs and arrived in London at 0320hrs. It stayed for 1

hours for rest and refreshment of passengers and crew. It then headed for Washington

DC and took 10 hours.

(a) How long did the journey from Nairobi to London take in hours and minutes?
(2mks)

(b) At what time did it arrive in Washington D.C.? (2mks)

(c) An aircraft left Abidjan at 2215h and arrived in Entebbe at 0330h. It departed
from Entebbe at 0450h and arrived in Nairobi at 0645h. Assuming the times
quoted are all Kenyan time, find how long the journey was from Abidjan to
Nairobi? (3mks)

(d) A watch which loses a half-minute every hour was set to read the correct time
at 0545h on Monday. Determine the time, in the 12 hour system, the watch
will show on Friday at 1945h.

21. A private farmer in Bondo produced 14,400 bags of rice in 2007. This was a decrease
of 20% over the production in 2006. In 2008 he increased production by 30%. In
2009, he managed to produce 12,000 bags of rice.
(a) Find the number of bags of rice he produced in:
(i) 2006 (2mks)

(ii) 2008 (2mks)

(b) What was the percentage decrease in production in 2009 over that period of
year? (2mks)

(c) Calculate the percentage decrease in production in 2009 over that in 2006.
(2mks)

(d) The price per bag of rice was sh. 3500 in 2009, how much did he get if he sold
65% of the produce in that year? (2mks)
