For those reasons, the March for Life will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012.

From the Archdiocese of ewark Update on Catholic Education Commission

In recent weeks, the members of the Catholic Education Commission examining the future of catholic elementary education in the Archdiocese of Newark have been meeting in similar subcommittees charged with such areas as facilities, Finance and Governance curriculum, Marketing, Enrollment, Leadership and, most important, Catholic identity. During this period, the subcommittee members have been developing and evaluating a range of information, including ideas and programs that are working in other diocese and educational programs, and the challenges of incorporating some of these ideas within the Archdiocesan program. They are also looking to Best Practices nationwide in terms of educational models and finances. In addition, these groups are analyzing the current data on areas like enrollment trends, academic test scores, fiancs and demand for a Catholic education in order help position the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese as a vital and vibrant program for educating children for the future. The impact of current legislative issues, including both full school choice and the Opportunity Scholarship Act, are also concerns that the subcommittees and overall Commission are examining. Archbishop Myers has met with the members of the Commission, and has expressed both the appreciation for the work to date, and his anticipation that the full strategic plan for the future of the Catholic elementary schools will be comprehensive and ready for submission by its February 2012 deadline. We ask for your continued prayers and support as the Catholic Education Commission continues in the coming weeks to work to ensure the highest quality Catholic education program for the benefit of Gods children here in the Archdiocese.

Minutes from Parish Council meeting November 16, 2011

Council meeting attendees were: Father Bill, Karen Dreitlein, Pat Jackson, Jerry Russo and Steve Madonna. Meeting was called to order by Jerry Russo at 7:30 PM Opening Prayer by Pat Jackson Open discussion: Ministry Fair- A general discussion was held on the success of the ministry fair. While a number of the ministries did attend, it is disappointing that others could not. We wish to thank all those ministries that did attend and we trust it was a successful event for your ministry. The attendance was not what we had hoped it would be. Council staffing- We continue to struggle with filling a few of the empty slots for cluster leaders and ask anyone you is interested in becoming a member to contact Father Bill. Parish Catechetical Staffing- Joanne Fezza and Anne Mendez have been named as Co-Parish Catechetical Leaders Financial situation- Mother Nature was not kind to our facility and we have incurred a number of unexpected expenditures similar to you and me. The difference is a factor of three. Over the extent of two storms, hurricane Irene and the Oct. 30th storm, emergency repairs were required in the school cafeteria, the convent, rectory and church. Some examples were an unanticipated snow plowing cost of 3k, repair of the steps and installation of a sump pump in the convent of over 4K and, repairs to the heating systems in the church and the rectory. It is estimated a lost in the Sunday collections of 25k due to the reduced attendance caused as a result of these storms. Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM
