CLIMATE CHANGE
-Climate Change or global warming is an ongoing
increase in the global average temperature and its
effects on earth climate system.

-Climate change is the biggest single health threat to


humanity, the impacts are already harming health,
through air pollution, disease, extreme weather
events, forced displacement during flooding or
famine or dry spell, pressure on mental health and
increased hunger and poor nutrition.
The UN on CLIMATE CHANGE
-The Science is clear, the world is in a state of
emergency. There is a RED ALERT on Global Warming.
-Climate Promise 2025.
A UN campaign which aims to accelerate efforts from
local to international levels to take more ambitious
steps to ensure that global temperature does not heat
up beyond 1.5 degrees limit, a goal set
with the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate change.
IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE PHILIPPINES
1. Annual losses in the Gross Domestic products
2. Change in rainfall patterns and distribution
3. Drought
4. Threat to biodiversity and food security
5. Sea level rise
6. Public health risk
7. Endangerment of vulnerable groups such as
women, children and IPs.

RATIONALE OF THE GREEN
UNIVERSITY PROGRAM
RATIONALE
Green is a color of life, hope, charity, care and peace. The name Green University,
then. Encompasses the entirety of its meaning as green. By committing itself as a
Green University, NDMU aligns its structures, starting with its Vision- Mission,
Thrusts, Curriculum, Support Services, Research, Community Extension and Linkages
toward the achievement of a life-giving environment, ecologically- balanced
ecosystem and a healthy planet.

NDMU supports all advocacies for the environment, and strives to


accomplish campus greening and beautification. Furthermore, NDMU
necessarily provides venues in integrating Environment Education in the
curriculum and exacting students and personnel researches to
environmental care and protect.

WE DECLARE CLIMATE EMERGENCY!
Notre Dame of Marbel University, an institution that cares for the
environment and humanity, declares a climate change emergency in
solidarity this LaudatoSi Week in response to the growing urgency of
addressing the ongoing climate crisis. We acknowledge the gravity of the
situation and the urgent need for collective action to mitigate the
negative impacts of climate change.
The Center for Peace and Environment (CPE) and Gender and
Human Development (GaHD) are committed to taking immediate
and significant steps to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and
contribute to the deceleration of global warming. We pledge to take
the following steps to accomplish this:

1. We will prioritize the use of renewable energy sources in all of our
operations and activities on campus in order to reduce our carbon
footprint no laterthan 2030.Additionally, weadhere to our institution's
policy of not allowing plastic in order to fight climate change,
emphasizing the importance ofsafeguarding the
environment.
2. We will promote and initiate Sapat Lifestyle practices throughout our
university community, encompassing waste reduction, energy
conservation, and sustainable transportation. Our responses to
environmental situations come from a call to our inner selves,
recognizing the crucial role of preserving our environment in today's
society.

3. We will continue to advocate for policy reforms that address prevalent
environmental issues, push for climate action, and support a just
transition towards a low-carbon economy. We will actively engage with
the Rights of Nature Bill and other legislative initiatives to ensure a
sustainable future forall.
4. We will utilize our academic resources and expertise to educate
and inspire our students, faculty, and staff about the emerging
environmental challenges. Through research, coursework, and
campus-wide initiatives, we aim to foster a sense of responsibility and
empower our university community to actively participate in the
climate change campaign.

all creation, and thereby it is our responsibility as a university
community to acknowledge our nature's intrinsic rights to thrive,

The CLIMATE CHANGE ACT 9729 of 2009
-It is the main streaming of Climate Change Act into
government policies formulation, establishing framework,
strategies and programs on climate change and the
mitigation of its impact.
-The declaration admits that climate change exists and that
the measures taken up to this point are not enough to limit
the changes brought.
-This is small steps towards ending the collective denial that
has driven us to this adverse effect.
THE ETHICAL DIMENSION OF CLIMATE
EMERGENCY DECLARATION
-The UNESCO solemnly expresses the concern of member
states that climate change could create morally and
acceptable damage and injustice.
-We should recognize that humanity and the whole
ecosystem is collapsing and immediate strategy actions
must be done to reduce or halt the irreversible impacts of
climate change.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE?

climate change and sustainability. Everyone of us can help
limit global warming and take care of our planet.

1. Ensures the CES functions of the University is carried out. 2. Makes certain that
the NDMU CES Mission-Vision as well as its objectives,
programs and services are properly and fully promulgated.
3. Initiates, coordinates in the development and implementation of a University-
wide program for CES.
4.Establishes stronger linkages with relevant agencies, organizations for inter-
institutional cooperation and possible fund sourcing of special programs in
national and international
lev els.
5. Strengthen and sustain ongoing programs through cooperative efforts and
partnership with service areas and other agencies.
6. Develops and strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of personnel on
community extension-service learning activities and in implementing quality
services
GUIDELINES
1. The service learning program activities conducted by the specific
sector/unit of the University are translation of their academic and
professional specialization.
2. They are conducted at least once a school year or once in a
semester.
3. They can have the program conducted in any of the four adopted
communities or groups of the University or they can identify another
partner communities which are in need.
4. The outreach activities can be conducted when the need arises.
