1. Based on the above specific roles, describe how a nurse can give relevant
information to their patient.

A nurse can be relevant in giving information towards their patient through a lot of
ways. In giving relevant information a nurse must consider for the patient to be attentive
thus to prevent future implications that might affect the recovery process of the patients.
One thing that a nurse can do is to make use and have therapeutic relationship with
their patient especially while having communication or conversation. J. Duff states that
therapeutic relationships with patients are the main component in healthcare for growth
of a positive nurse-patient relationship (2016). Maintaining a therapeutic relationship
with your patients allows for a nurse to gain their patient trust. Hence, the transfer of
information may go smoothly and a nurse could make sure to transfer the most relevant
information as much as possible.

Another thing a nurse should consider is being confident and accurate with the
use of words. Having confidence can also be one of the characteristics a nurse should
possess while giving information. This enables the patient to listen attentively and for
them to believe that you are knowledgeable from what you are doing. Apart from
confidence the use of the correct set of words could make sure the client understands
the information precisely. Grammar can take a toll or affect the process of
communication that might cause misunderstandings between the patients and nurse.
Particularly if we will be interacting with international patients as a Filipino nurse. Lastly
the use of gestures and eye contact could make education more convincing making it
sure for patient to maintain their eye and ears towards you.

2. Give at least three ways a nurse can utilize her role as a facilitator of
learning for the patient and his family.

The first thing a nurse can do is to utilize the use of technological equipment that
help them, especially in health care education. Some examples of this technological
equipment are video, podcast, and simulation, etc. According to P. A. Guze (2015),
mobile devices with apps, videos, and simulation, etc. are some of the tools made
possible by science and technology are one of the few available devices that can help
nurses to utilize their role as facilitator of learning. Specifically with the demand and
change in the healthcare environment that requires more technical actions. Hence to
make it easier for patients to understand particular concepts involved in the field of
medicine making use of technology is a great alternative.

Second thing a nurse can do is to be equipped with proper knowledge and

awareness particularly of modern concepts in medicine. Being knowledgeable of
specific concepts in healthcare can help them in facilitating learning towards the patient
and their family. A nurse with advanced knowledge can help them to be critical thinkers
and address gaps that can be observed along the treatment of patients. Particularly if
patients have questions regarding medicine intake, surgery process, and the use of
specific equipment for the purpose of recovery and wellness.

Lastly, the use of simpler terms that a patient can easily understand can help a
nurses utilize their role as educators in healthcare. The use of technical concepts can
cause confusions that might create misunderstandings between the patient and the
nurse. Thus, it is the nurse's duty as a facilitator of learning to make sure that medical
jargon are made simple to understand and comprehend by the patients and their family.
Hence, if after hospitalization, while the patient is at home the patient and their family
can easily do or continue the medication process at their own.

3. Give one scenario or case where a nurse can become a coordinator and
advocate for a patient/client.

Assuming that patient (A) is diagnosed for a specific type of cancer. However the
attending physician said that patient (A) has only a few years left but still his situation
can be better with constant chemotherapy. Still, patient (A) and his/her family are
worried that things may not go in their favor especially due to financial constraints. The
nurse heard this unintentionally while beside the attending physician. Hence, the nurse
approach the patient to calm him/her by having a therapeutic conversation with the
patient. And the same time, the nurse gives some informations regarding the
chemotheraphy treatment to uplift the patient and his/her family’s feelings.

Thus, in this way the nurse became an advocate towards the patient in a way
that the nurse showed her support towards the patient through a therapeutic way of
communication. The nurse have also shared information that can be easily understood
by the patient and his/her family in simplest way possible. Nevertheless, in this situation
the nurse became a coordinator by balancing and calming the situation both for the
patient and the family. Thus in conclusion in this way the nurse became an advocate
and coordinator at the same time.
