Job Title: Business Developer


Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Employment Status: Full-time

Reporting to: General Manager, Gossini Tanzania
Sector: Logistics, Transport, Supply Chain Management

Job Summary:

The Business Developer at Gossini Tanzania plays a crucial role in expanding and growing the company.
As the spearhead of market and client acquisition, the job holder will be responsible for designing and
executing commercial strategies to maximize revenue opportunities. This role requires a deep
understanding of the Tanzanian market, expertise in commercial negotiations, and the ability to build
and maintain successful professional relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Market Development and Expansion:


o Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth market studies to identify trends, growth
opportunities, and challenges specific to the Tanzanian market.
o Market Penetration Strategy: Develop strategic plans to enter new market segments,
considering local and regional peculiarities.
o Needs Assessment: Identify the needs of potential clients and tailor Gossini Tanzania's
service offerings to meet these needs competitively.
2. Prospecting and Lead Generation:
o Active Prospecting: Utilize tools and techniques to identify and target new potential
clients in key sectors such as industry, retail, and infrastructure.
o Lead Management: Convert leads into clients by using relevant sales arguments and
offering customized solutions.
o Contract Negotiation: Lead complex commercial negotiations, prepare value
propositions, and close deals that benefit both Gossini Tanzania and its clients.
3. Client Relationship Management:
o Client Retention: Establish and maintain strong and lasting relationships with existing
clients, ensuring their ongoing satisfaction.
o After-Sales Service: Work closely with operational teams to ensure flawless service
delivery and resolve any client issues.
o Account Development: Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities to maximize
the value of existing clients.
4. Competitive Analysis:
o Market Monitoring: Perform competitive intelligence to stay informed about
competitor activities and new market entrants.
o Benchmarking: Compare Gossini Tanzania's offerings and services with those of
competitors to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
o Strategic Response: Propose adjustments to commercial strategies to respond to
competitor movements.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Coordination with Internal Teams: Work closely with sales, marketing, and
operations teams to ensure alignment of commercial strategies and company objectives.
o Information Sharing: Regularly share insights on market trends, customer feedback,
and competitive performance with internal stakeholders.
o Project Management: Oversee specific business development projects, ensuring
compliance with timelines and budgets.
6. Reporting and Performance Tracking:
o Regular Reporting: Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on
commercial performance, new opportunities, and achieved results.
o KPIs and Objectives: Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure
the effectiveness of implemented strategies and adjust actions if necessary.
o Forecasting: Participate in the development of sales forecasts and annual budgets based
on market trends and identified opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Educational Background: University degree in Commerce, Marketing, Business


Administration, or a related field. Training in logistics or supply chain is an asset.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in business development,
with significant experience in the logistics, transport, or supply chain sector in Tanzania or East
Africa.
• Technical Skills:
o Negotiation: Proven expertise in contract negotiation and closing complex deals.
o Data Analysis: Ability to interpret market data, identify trends, and make informed
recommendations.
o CRM: Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools and digital
prospecting techniques.
• Interpersonal Skills:
o Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and
Swahili. Proficiency in French is a plus.
o Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships at
all hierarchical levels.
o Leadership: Ability to positively influence teams and motivate others to achieve
common goals.
• Mobility: Available for frequent travel within Tanzania and potentially to other countries in the
region.
• Additional Skills:
o Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while
respecting deadlines and budgets.
o Innovation: Creative and proactive mindset to identify and exploit new business
opportunities.
