Western Coastal Plain

The Western Coastal Plain stretches from Gujarat in the north and ends at Kanyakumari in
the south. It passes through the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala. The
Western Coastal Plain can be divided into three parts- the Gujarat Coast in the north, the
Konkan Coast in the middle and the Malabar Coast in the south.The Gujarat Coast lies
between the Gulf of Kachchh and the Gulf of Khambat. It is broad in the north and narrow
towards the south.
The Konkan Coast is located between the Gulf of Khambat and Goa. It is rocky and uneven.
The hills in this region go up to the seashore. Therefore, lighthouses have been built all

Summer Season

The summer season begins from April and continues till mid-June. The sunrays fall directly
overhead. The days are very hot in the Northern Plains. May and June are the hottest
months in North India. The days are long and the nights are short. In the Northern Plains,
hot, dry wine called loo blows during the day. The wind almost unbearable. Dust storms are
also ver common.
The southern part of the country is also hot but not so as compared to the north. This is
because the cool sea breeze from the sea lowers the temperature. However, it is very
humid- the amount of water vapour in the air is high.
