Bridging opportunities together… across the Indian Ocean

Malaysian Small & Medium Enterprises

Business Development Association (MIMUDA)
in collaboration with
Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI)

1
ABOUT THE DELEGATION

Located respectively on the western and eastern sides of the Indian Ocean, the countries of Mauritius
as well as Malaysia & Singapore have the potential to create a remarkable bridge across this vast
expanse to unite their economies and people. The countries have dynamic and progressive
multicultural populations, hailing from similar historical legacies and boasting propitious future
prospects.

This Mauritius Business Delegation, featuring entrepreneurs and investors from Malaysia and
Singapore, is significant as it presents an opportunity for them to explore and venture into the vibrant
market of this African island nation. It offers a unique chance to network, establish business
connections, and gain insights into the business environment of Mauritius.

The trip is led by prominent Malaysian businessman Dato Pardip Kumar Kukreja and is conducted in
collaboration with the High Commissioner of Mauritius to Malaysia, H.E. Jagdishwar Goburdhun,
G.O.S.K.

It is organised by Malaysian Small & Medium Enterprises Business Development Association

(MIMUDA) in collaboration with the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI).

Mauritius is Malaysia’s 24th largest trading partner in Africa. In 2022, the total trade between both
countries was valued at RM492 million, marking a 26.03% increase from RM364 million attained the
year before. Robust trade relations have also led to cooperation in other sectors, such as education,
tourism, and connectivity.

Very importantly, there is still a great deal of untapped potential for trade and investment. It is thus
imperative that the private sector in Malaysia is encouraged and facilitated to tap the opportunities
among counterparts in Mauritius.

Mauritius established diplomatic relations with Malaysia in January 1987 and opened a High
Commission in Kuala Lumpur in July 1988. Cooperation between the two countries ranges from
cultural exchanges, to trade in goods, financial assistances, capacity building in various sectors.

The Mauritius High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is also accredited to the following ASEAN member
countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. It also responds to
requests from Singapore and Mauritius nationals from Singapore, mainly due to proximity with Kuala
Lumpur.
