CHAPTER FIVE

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

As regards to British code of practice (BS 8110), the grade of steel

(characteristic strength of = 410N/mm and of concrete 25 N/mm.

the share force and maximum bending moment gotten was used

to design. Bearing capacity of such 150kn/mm2 and adequate

factor of safety was used to design the foundation.

CONCLUSION

The complete details and necessity of the classroom has been

explained in the introduction part. Live loads and dead loads are

taken into consideration and analysis are done manually. Manual

analysis comprises of load distribution of slabs on to beams and

calculation of bending moment and shear force by appropriate

method

We can conclude that there is a difference between the

theoretical and the practical work done. As the scope of

understanding will be much more when practical work is done. As

we get more knowledge in such a situation where we have great

experience doing the practical work.

Knowing the loads we have design the slab depending upon

the ratio of longer span to shorter span panel. In this project we

have designed as one way or two way depending upon the end

condition and corresponding bending moment. The coefficient has

been calculated as per I.S code method for corresponding Ly/Lx

ratio. The calculations has been done for both beams and

columns and designed frame analysis by moment distribution

method

In conclusion to the aforementioned structural members, the

slab, beams, columns, foundation and staircase, the structural

design of all the members makes it possible to produce a

structure that will serve for a proposed period of time without the

possibility of any failure according to British Standard (BS 8110).

This structural members if effectively analyzed play vital roles in

attaining a standard and finished structure.

In summary, the above procedure if followed adequately, the

structure will be serviceable, durable and safe during its life span.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Design and analysis of a classroom with raft foundation is

recommended for final year in tertiary institution in order to

expose them to design and analysis of a structure after school or

in the course of practicing.

However the British Standard has been adopted in this

country as the structural design reference which has been very

helpful to our materials and environment.

Design procedures should be properly followed using the

specified code of practice and must be checked to eliminate of

under or over reinforcement. In analysis of structures, formulas

are key points in attaining precision and accuracy and should be

carefully stated in the project work.

In accordance to prospect of taking Civil Engineering as a

discipline in Nigeria, the government must ensure that students

follow set standards that is recognized worldwide to insure them

against unpredicted failure that might occur in the future due to

environmental inregularities.
