The Gutenberg Bible was published around the year 1454, during the time
that the Catholic church controlled who could read the bible. As a very
religious person and lover of history, this is a really good object, as it is og
both historical and religious signifigance. The features that link to the
prompt are not Bible itself, but how it was translated and the words within.

C
The first object that I have chosen for this is the Gutenberg Bible. This bible
was printed by a man named Johannes Gutenberg, around the year 1454.
This object has a personal connection in that it is of great historical and
religious significance. And as a lover of religious history, and one who reads
the bible, this is a great object for me to do. A notable feature of the
Gutenberg Bible is that the Gutenberg Bible was the earliest major book
printed in Europe using mass-produced metal movable type. This
groundbreaking printing technique, developed by Johannes Gutenberg in the
1450s, marked the start of the “Gutenberg Revolution” and the age of
printed books in the West. The use of movable type also allowed for more
efficient and consistent reproduction of text, which significantly impacted the
dissemination of knowledge and language.

My first object is the Gutenberg Bible, and it is remarkable for it being the
first ever printed book, marking a change in how language was
communicated. It dates to around the 1450s and was used, to help those
who couldn’t afford one of the bibles from the church. Could afford one from
Johannes, allowing them to read and study it.

I picked this object because of its enormous historical and religious

significance. And after considering it for a while, it lead me to consider, how
would the transefer and dissemination of language be different if Johannes
Gutenberg had not decided to print the bible?

The printing of the Gutenberg bible significantly impacted the dissemination

of Knowledge through language, as prior to the printing press, books were
scarce and expensive. Only the upper class, who could afford them, had
access to written knowledge. Illiteracy was also very widespread among the
general population, and information primarily flowed through local priests or
traveling merchants. Without the printing press, the Proto-Reformers like
John Wycliffe and Jan Hus would have struggled to reach a large audience
with their ideas.

The absence of printed materials would have stifled independent thought.

People would have relied solely on what they were taught by their parents
and priests, with no counterpoint to challenge existing beliefs. The invention
of the printing press also significantly improved how fast and cheap a book
could be made, up to this point woodblock printing, which was time-
consuming and costly, was the main way the books and bibles were made.
The printing press greatly improved the transfer knowledge.
