END key on your keyboard. Now, press the HOME key. What happened each time?
When END key was pressed the cursor shifted to the end of the sentence.
When HOME key was pressed the cursor shifted back to the beginning of the sentence.
4. Press CTRL and the Right arrow key. What happens? Moves the cursor to the next
word.
Press CTRL and the Up-arrow key. What happens? Moves to the beginning of the
previous paragraph.
Press CTRL and the Down arrow key. What happens? Moves to the beginning of the
next paragraph.
5. Explain how using the Status bar and the various key combinations assist the user.
The status bar allows you to quickly access pages number, word count, page layout,
zoom bar and etc. The various key combinations are an easy way to type up your work
without having to search for different icons.
6. What do the red wavy lines that appear under certain words indicate?
The red wavy lines that appear under certain words indicate a spelling error that is not
stored in the MS Word Thesaurus.
7. What do the green/blue wavy lines that appear under certain words indicate?
The green/blue wavy lines that appear under certain words indicate a grammatical error
or misused words.
9. Explain the numerous ways to copy, cut and paste text in your document. What menu
item would you select to access these commands? What icons represent the short cut
access to these commands? Insert the icon symbols in your response.
a. Select your text and right click and press Copy. Right click where you want to paste
your text and click Paste.
b. Click CTRL+C to copy. Click CTRL+V to paste

10. What is the difference between SAVE and SAVE AS?
The difference between SAVE and SAVE AS is that save allows the user to store the
document back to the original file/folder it was in and save as allows the user to store a
document in a new location.
11. What is the difference between SPELL CHECK, GRAMMAR CHECK & PROOFREADING?
Spell check means to check if all words are spelled correctly. Grammar check means to
check if the sentence is formed correctly with proper punctuation marks. Proofread is
the last step that checks over any minor mistakes in your writing.
12. Change line spacing of Part 4’s text to double space. How did you do this?
Home> Paragraph> Line and Paragraph Spacing > 2.0
13. You just typed a whole paragraph of text in ALL CAPS! (eek!) How can you
quickly fix this problem without retyping all the text again? What MS Word feature
can you use (hint look under Home-> Font)? Explain how to access it.
You can quickly fix this problem without retyping all the text again by going to Home>
Font> Change Case (Aa)> lowercase.
14. Explain the following functions and tell where they can be found in MS Word:
a) Word count icon
Counts words, characters, and lines for you. Where it can be found in MS Word:
Review> Proofing> Word Count
b) Thesaurus
Suggests other words and ways to say what you mean. Where it can be found in MS
Word: Review> Proofing> Thesaurus
c) Set Language [Try and change the default setting from English (United States) to
English (Canadian).]
Changes file language. Where it can be found in MS Word: File> Options> Language.
Then go under Office authoring languages and proofing and click Add language.
Choose English (Canadian) and click Set as preferred.
15. Using HELP, explain the difference between using the TAB key on your keyboard and
setting TABs using the TAB Function accessed through the PARAGRAPH menu.
The tab key moves your cursor to the default tab stops in your document. Setting tabs
using the tab function accessed through the paragraph menu allows you to choose and
select your tab stop positions.
16. In MS Word, three functions/features can be used to organized and format text into
columns. Research the below three function/features using help and explain how to
use each:
a. Columns
Layout> Page Setup> Columns. Select the type of column you want or click
More Columns for additional options.
b. Textboxes (include linking textboxes)
Insert> Text> Text Box. Select one of the preformatted text boxes from the
list, or select More Text Boxes from Office.com, or select Draw Textbox. To
link a textbox, you will need to draw a text box where you want it. Click on
the textbox and go to Shape Format> Text> Create Link. Click on the next
textbox to link them.
c. Tables
Insert> Tables> Table. You can either use the grid to create a table or insert a
table by typing the table size in or draw a table. If you want to convert text
into a table, click Insert> Table> Convert Text to Table.
17. In the VIEW menu tab, turn on RULERS in MS Word. Why is it beneficial to select the
Ruler feature when editing documents in MS Word?
The ruler in Word lets you control the margins of your page and the indentation of
paragraphs. They are great for lining up images, text, and other items. It is also a good
way to make sure your page translates into what you will get on the printed page.
18. Explain the benefits of the QUICK ACCESS menu found above the Ribbon Menu. How
would you customize this?
The Quick Access Toolbar gives you quick access to commonly used commands such as
Save, Undo, Redo. These are always visible no matter which ribbon tab is selected. You
can customize this by clicking the drop-down menu next to <Repeat Typing> icon.
