Poetry Reading Pillow

Knitted cushion-cover with cables in DROPS Lima.

DROPS 215-46
DROPS Design: Pattern no li-127
Yarn group B
-------------------------------------------------------

MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 43 x 43 cm – Fits cushion size 45 x 45 cm.

The cover fits a slightly larger cushion size, because the cover needs to stretch a little to fit nicely.

MATERIALS:
DROPS LIMA from Garnstudio (belongs to yarn group B)
300 g colour 0206, light beige

KNITTING TENSION:
22 stitches in width and 30 rows in height with stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm.

NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 3.5 MM: Length 80 cm.
DROPS CABLE NEEDLE – for cables.
Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size.
If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round):

1 ridge in height = 2 rounds; Knit 1 round and purl 1 round.

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 and A.2.

INCREASE/DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced):

To work out how to increase/decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 94
stitches) and divide by the number of increases/decreases to be made (e.g. 16) = 5.8. In this
example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 6th stitch. On the next round work
the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. When decreasing, knit together approx. each 5th and 6th
stitch.

START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

CUSHION-COVER– SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:

The piece is worked in the round, bottom up. A pattern is worked on the front, stocking stitch on
the back. The cover is sewn together top and bottom.

COVER:
Cast on 188 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and Lima. Work 1 RIDGE in the round – read
description above.
Insert 2 markers as follows: Marker 1 at the beginning of the round and marker 2 after 94 stitches
– the same number of stitches front and back.
Knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you increase stitches to compensate that the pattern tightens
the piece.
Increase 16 stitches evenly over the first 94 stitches between markers 1 and 2 – read
INCREASE/DECREASE TIP in explanations above = 204 stitches.
There are 110 stitches between markers 1 and 2 and 94 stitches between marker 2 and the
beginning of the round.
Purl 1 round.
Now continue as follows: Knit 4, A.1 over 18 stitches (1 time in width), A.2 over 24 stitches (1
time in width), A.1 over 18 stitches, A.2 over 24 stitches, A.1 over 18 stitches and knit 4 – marker
2 sits here. Knit the other 94 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
Continue like this until A.2 has been worked a total of 8 times in height (the piece measures
approx. 43 cm) or to desired length. Knit 1 round and decrease 16 stitches evenly over the first
110 stitches between markers 1 and 2 = 188 stitches. Purl 1 round, knit 1 round and purl 1 round.
Cast off with knit on the next round.

ASSEMBLY:
Lay the piece flat with the markers on each side, making sure the piece is not twisted.
Sew the cast-on edges together – sew in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch. Insert the
inner cushion and sew the cast-off edges together.
