I have many friends but Shan is the one I like most. We have known each other since we

were in grade six. He is tall and fair boy with straight hair. He is known to be cheerful,

friendly and hardworking. He is kind-hearted and is willing to help others. He is good at

A famous place in Sri Lanka/ A visit to an


interesting place
I went to Sigiriya with my family last week. We went in our car.It was breathtaking.
Sigiriya Rock Fortress is considered as one of the world heritage nominated by
UNESCO.It is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. This fortress was built by King
Kashyapa. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful

frescoes. It is nearly 100 meters high .One could see the Lion Gate, the Mirror Wall,
landscaped gardens, water gardens and caves in Sigiriya. The fountains are still active during
rainy season. It is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning and it is the
most visited historic site in Sri Lanka. It’s our duty to protect this ancient monument.

Books are our friends/My hobby/ Leisure Time


Activity
My hobby is reading books. Last week I visited the Book Fair at BMICH. There were many
books. My favourite book is Madol Duwa. We can learn many things from the books. Books
open a new world for us. So, books are our good friends.I read story books, magazines,
newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting.I learnt about the wonders of
the world, space travel, human achievements, gigantic whales, tiny viruses and other
fascinating things of our world.

Sinhala and Hindu New Year.


The Sinhalese and the Hindus celebrate the New Year on the 13th or 14th of April. This
festival lasts about two weeks. People prepare various traditional sweetmeats and eat them
along with milk rice. Both adults and children wear new clothes on this day. People worship
elders go to temple and do many other things at auspicious time. I like this festival because
it promotes peace and harmony.

The Great Wall of China


It is the largest man-made structure in the world. It was built over a long period of time
since 700 B.C. The wall is 21196 km long and is made of stone ,brick,wood,tampered
earth etc.It is said, that, this is the only structure on the earth that can be seen from
space. It is considered as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

The Pasific Ocean


The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest of all oceans. It covers more than 30% of
earth’s surface. The deepest known part on the earth, the Mariana Trench is in this
ocean. Its lowest point is called the Challenger Deep. The largest coral reef in the world
,the Great Barrier Reef is also situated in the Pacific.

A trip I went (A place you visited)


I went to Nuwara Eliya with my family last week. We went by train. We passed streams,
waterfalls,tea states and mountains, etc on our way. We reached Nuwara Eliya the next
day. It was very cold and we wore jearseys. On the next day we went to see the animal
farm. Next we went to the Haggala park. We had lunch under a big, shady tree. We
spent about three days in Nuwara Eliya. It was a wonderful trip
