Introduction :
BodyTech Gym is a high-spec gym, aims to make absolutely everybody feel
welcome while empowering everyone to reach their health & fitness goals. Body
Tech Gym has a wide range of products and services, from gym memberships range
and personal training to fitness classes and supplements.
Body tech Gym is easily accessible and in a low-traffic area located in the center of
the Capital city Male’. Our gym has the right equipment and facilities from weights,
cardio machines to a functional training area and group fitness area and showers.
Body tech Gym is managed by 3 shareholders, each dedicated to run a specific task
assigned to them. One oversees marketing and innovative strategic development,
second one will undertake maintenance, hygiene while the third will take care of
finance and inventory.

Preparation for the Covid19 pandemic


Since the beginning of the year 2020, government of the Maldives has been
monitoring the pandemic crisis all around the world, and along our team was
evaluating and planning for the worst-case scenario that could happen to our gym
and to the fitness industry.
The following measures was taken by the management to minimize the impact of
Covid.
1- Management meeting was held with staff team to discuss the payroll
adjustments.
2- Discussion with the Landlords was made in order to lower the rent.
3- Training was conducted to all staff members to take online sessions.
4- Pre recording of the fitness lessons was made.
5- Created awareness of the steps that we are going to implement among gym
member community.
6- Started to source all gym hygienic automated equipment such as sensor
disinfectant machines, infra cameras, air humidifiers and more items from
abroad.

BodyTech gym was very closely monitoring the Covid 19 in the Maldives as the
below mentioned events was happening.
7 March 2020 First confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the country (i.e., two
tourists).
12 March 2020 State of Public Health Emergency declared.
19 March 2020 Government offices and schools and education service providers
closed. Entry of all tourists arriving via safaris, yachts, and other passenger vessels
suspended.
21 March 2020 All passengers entering the country subjected to mandatory
quarantine for 14 days. 22 March 2020 All dine-in services offered by local
restaurants, Gyms and hotels in the GMR closed.
23 March 2020 All tourist excursions across the country banned.
25 March 2020 Employees at resorts and safari boats were instructed to remain on
board for 14 days after the last guest departed.
27 March 2020 First Maldivian tested positive for COVID-19 while in quarantine
facility. Suspension of on-arrival visa for all passengers arriving to Maldives by air
and sea, except for individuals with special permission granted by the government.
2 April 2020 Three-hour curfew (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) in the GMR enforced.
15 April 2020 First case of community transmission confirmed in the capital, Malé. A
24-hour lockdown in the GMR announced.
16 April 2020 Ban on nationwide travel and public gatherings ordered.
17 April 2020 Lockdown extended for a period of 14 days as cases increased.
28 April 2020 The first community transmission outside of the capital, in an outer
atoll, confirmed. 29 April 2020 First COVID-19-related death (i.e., 83-year-old
Maldivian woman)

As the cases was rising Government closed all the gym on 22 nd of March. This made
the business on halt and had no clue of when will the government ease the
preventive steps.

Once the gym was closed management started to implement the below mentioned
steps were taken to minimize the loss.
1- All Shareholder’s salary was cut off, all staff was given basic salary,
2- Online fitness classes started.
3- Discussion was made with the government to arrange an interest free grant for
similar businesses.
4- With the effort Body Tech Gym and other similar Gyms, they were able to form a
business community so that the say has a more weight in decision making.
With numerous efforts, 23 June 2021 Government allowed gyms to resume services
to the public from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on an appointment basis and after presenting a
service plan to the authorities.
With the prepared businesses plan and eye-catching promotional advertisements
bodytech gym manage to be back in the track in 6 months’ time .
