Bleeding in the brain – haemorrhagic stroke


Most strokes are caused by a blockage in an artery leading to the brain
– an ischaemic stroke. However, about 15 per cent are due to bleeding
in or around the brain. These are called haemorrhagic strokes. This
factsheet explains the different types of stroke caused by bleeding
and how they are diagnosed and treated. It also lists sources of further
information and support and a glossary.
