33. Show that the right circular cone of least curved surface and given volume has an altitude

34. Find the local maxima and local minima of the function 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑥 − 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑥, 0 < 𝑥 < 2𝜋.
Also, find the local maximum and the local minimum values. (5)

36. CASE-STUDY I
Rohit and Shubham are students of class XII. In Mathematics class, teacher sketched the
graph of 𝒚 = 𝐬𝐢𝐧−𝟏 𝒙 on blackboard as shown in the figure:

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) What is the range of the function sin−1 𝑥 ? (1)

(ii) Find the domain of the function sin−1(1 − 𝑥). (1)

(iii) If sin−1 0.8 = 𝑥 , then find the value of sin( 2sin−1 0.8). (2)

OR

(iii) Write the following function in the simplest form:

37. CASE-STUDY II
A farmer Shyam Prasad wishes to fence his rectangular field whose length is ‘y’ units,
breadth is ‘x’ units and area is 100 square units. One side of the field is along a straight
river as shown in the figure below:

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Assuming that along the river, no fencing is needed for the field, what should be the
length of fencing(L) around the field in terms of y alone? (1)

38. CASE-STUDY III


Aarohi goes for a walk in a community park daily. She notices two trees in a line (as
shown in the given figure) whose heights are AP=16m and BQ=22m respectively, 20m
apart from each other.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Aarohi stands at a point (say R) in between these trees such that AR= x metres. Obtain
an expression for 𝑅𝑃2 + 𝑅𝑄 2 in terms of x. If 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑅𝑃2 + 𝑅𝑄 2, then is 𝑓(𝑥)
differentiable in 𝑥 ∈ (0,20) ? Justify. (2)

(ii) Find the intervals in which 𝑓(𝑥) is increasing and decreasing. (2)
