Class/Program: Degree (BSc degree)

Year: 3rd Semester: 1, 2024

Assignment 1(___%)

Submission date: Dec-10-2024

General Instructions

 Write your name and other credentials info neatly

 This assignment contains 7 questions. You must clearly show all of the possible steps of
your work, while answers without justification/workout may not receive points.
 Your answers should be neat and clear, papers stapled, and all steps must be shown
clearly, readable and well presented for full credit.
 Illustrate your answer by giving suitable examples/graphs/charts/figures/tables/diagrams
wherever necessary
 Copying assignments i.e., plagiarism is strictly discouraged and only hand written
assignment papers are acceptable.
 In the case of two or more students’ assignments are too similar in content, nature, the
assignments may not receive points or disqualified.
Questions
1. Consider the simple signal processing system shown in Figure below. The sampling periods
of A/D and D/A converters are T = 5ms and T’ = 1ms respectively. Determine the output
ya(t) of the system, if the input is xa(t) = 3cos (100πt) + 2sin(250πt) (t in seconds)
The post filter removes any frequency component above Fs/2

2. A discrete-time signal x(n) is defined as

A, First fold x(n) and then delay the resulting the resulting signal by two samples
B, First delay x(n) by two samples and the fold the resulting signal
C, Can you express the signal x(n) in terms of δ(n) and u(n)
D, Compare the results in parts (a) and (b) and derive a rule for obtaining the signal x(-n+k)
for x(n).
3. Compute the convolution operation y(n) = x(n)*h(n) of the following pair of signals.
A. x(n) = anu(n), x(n) = bnu(n), when a≠b and a=b.
B. x(n) = 1, n = -2, 0, 1 h(n) = δ(n) – δ(n-1) + δ(n-4) + δ(n-5)
2, n = -1
0, otherwise
4. The discrete-time system y(n) = ny(n-1) + x(n), n ≥ 0 is at rest (i.e., y(-1) = 0). Check if the
system is linear time invariant and BIBO stable.
5. Determine the response y(n), n≥0 of the system described by second-order difference
equation y(n) + 3y(n-1) – 4y(n-2) = x(n) + 2x(n-1) to the input x(n) = 4nu(n).
6. Determine impulse response of the causal system y(n) + 3y(n-1) – 4y(n-2) = x(n) + 2x(n-1).
7. Determine the response of with impulse response h(n) = anu(n) to the input signal x(n) = u(n)
– u(n-10). (Hint: apply linearity and time invariance properties to obtain the solution easily).
