3. 15 minutes of time is allotted exclusively for reading the question paper and 3 hours for writing the

place in your answer book.

SECTION-A : READING COMPREHENSION


(Questions 1 - 5) : Read the following passage carefully.
The young seagull was alone on his ledge. His two brothers and his sister had already flown
away the day before. He had been afraid to fly with them. Somehow when he had taken a little
run forward to the brink of the ledge and attempted to flap his wings he became afraid. The great
expanse of sea stretched down beneath, and it was such a long way down — miles down. He felt
certain that his wings would never support him; so he bent his head and ran away back to the little
hole under the ledge where he slept at night.

by the other women who were wrapping themselves in rich furs. Loisel detained her, “Wait,” said
he. “I am going to call a cab.” But she would not listen and descended the steps rapidly. When they
were in the street, they found no carriage; and they began to seek for one, hailing the coachmen
whom they saw at a distance.

I found some grapes when an old man was sleeping. I took the juice, in a large seashell and left it
hidden under a small bush. A few days later, I tasted the juice and it had turned into wine. I took
the seashell full of wine before the old man. I sipped it and exclaimed. “Ah ! It’s the sweetest wine
I’ve ever tasted”. The wicked man signalled me to give him the remaining wine. He drank all the
wine and was drunk senseless. Soon his hold on my back loosened and he set me free. I quickly
picked up a heavy stone and struck the old man’s head and he fell down dead. Thus, I got rid of an
evil man. I rushed to shore. I saw some sailors there. They had come ashore from their docked ship
in search of some fruits. They saw me and asked who I was. I told them all I had gone through.
Then one of them said, “Oh ! You are lucky to be alive. The man was called the old man of the sea
who killed all the people he met”.

when a seemingly ordinary book is revealed to have a profound impact on saving the world from
an alien invasion.
Imagine yourself as the book and describe the moment you were discovered by the aliens and
how your presence ultimately played a key role in saving Earth from the impending threat.

37. (A) Read the following passage carefully focussing on the underlined parts.
Ebright’s project was to see whether, in fact, birds would eat monarchs (A). He found that a
