a. Course Introduction:
This course introduces different source of renewable energy. Also, this course discusses the
devices needed to extract renewable energy and convert to usable form of energy. The discussion
leads to the working principle and characteristics of the devices.
b. Course Objectives:
Basic knowledge about Renewable
Energy sources and its utilization.
To understand the Environment and ecology
Management of Solid waste and its utilization
c. Course Outcomes:

CO1 Understand the need of energy conversion and the various methods of energy storage.
CO2 Understand the Geothermal &Tidal energy, its mechanism of production and its applications.
CO3 Develop the field applications of solar energy
CO4 Analyze the impact of bio gas on environment.
CO5 Illustrate the concepts of Direct Energy Conversion systems & their applications.

Earth's temperature and atmosphere; Sun as a source & nature of its radiation;
Biological Processes & Photosynthesis; Food Chain & amp;; Marine ecosystem
Ecosystem theories; Sources of Energy & Classification & Quality and
concentration of an energy
source. Primary and Secondary pollutants; Thermal & Radioactive pollution; Micro
Climate effects of pollution.
Unit-2 Renewable Energy Sources-1 Contact Hours: 14

Introduction of various type of Renewable energy sources; Solar Energy: Radiation


measuring instrument; Basics of flat plate collectors & concentrators and its utilization;
solar principle of photovoltaic conversion of solar energy & its application; wind
energy: characteristics and measurement; Wind energy conversion techniques &
principles. Types and classification of WECS

Unit-3 Renewable Energy Sources-2 Contact Hours: 12

Biomass Energy: Classification of biomass; Overview of micro & mini and small
hydro system; Ocean energy & Principle of ocean thermal energy conversion system;
Principle of Wave and Tidal Energy Conversion; Geothermal energy: Origin and types of
Geothermal resources; Hydrogen as a source of energy & Types of fuel cell ; fuel cell
system
