PART II: READING COMPREHENSION

A. Fill each gap with one appropriate word given.
Specific- medication- better- recover- particularly- hepatitis- painkillers- diagnosed-
infection- hepatologist

If you are (31)diagnosed. with hepatitis B, it is likely that your GP will refer to you a
specialist, usually a (32) hepatologist ( a liver specialist). Most people tend to be free of
symptoms and (33) recover completely within a couple of months, never going on to
develop chronic (long-term) hepatitis. There is usually no (34) specific treatment for
acute (short-term) hepatitis B. Unless your symptoms are (35) particularly severe, you
should be able to manage them at home. You can take over-the-counter (36) painkillers
such as ibuprofen and paracetamol and may be prescribed codeine if pain is more severe.
Nausea (feeling sick) can often be controlled with a (37) medication called
metoclopramide. If you are diagnosed as having a hepatitis B (38) infection, you will be
advised to have regular blood tests and physical check-ups. Once your symptoms get (39)
better you will need further testing to check that you are free of the virus and have not
developed chronic (40)_ hepatitis _B.
A. Fill each gap with one appropriate word given.
A. shows B. in C. problem D. to E. be
F. most G. beneficial H. tissues I. vitamins J. out
Vitamins, one of the (41) most essential nutrients required by the body, can (42)__ be
broadly classified into two broad categories namely, water-soluble (43) vitamins and fat-
soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins (B vitamins and vitamin C) get flushed (44) out
from the body; therefore there arises a need (45) to consume these vitamins on a daily
basis. On the contrary, fat-soluble vitamins (Vitamins A, D, E, and K) get stored in the
body's fatty (46) tissues There are distinctive kinds of vitamins and each vitamin plays a
unique role in promoting health fitness. Study (47) shows that vitamins are very essential
for our immune system. Eating healthier food that is rich (48) in vitamins and minerals
ensures good health, less heart (49) problem and regulated blood pressure. Vitamin rich
diets are also (50) beneficial to avoid induction of cancer in living body.
C. Read the text and say whether these sentences are TRUE or FALSE.
High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) is often called a "silent killer" because
it usually causes no symptoms until it becomes severe, when it might cause occasional
headaches, and/or vision changes. High blood pressure is a leading cause of heart attacks,
strokes and chronic kidney disease. High blood pressure means the pressure inside the
blood vessels is increased above normal. When this happens, the heart has to work harder
to pump blood through the body. Blood pressure is measured as two numbers: a top
number (called the systolic pressure) and a bottom number (called the diastolic pressure).
For example, 120/75 is read as 120 over 75. Normal blood pressure in adults 18 and older
is less than 120/80. People who have blood pressure between 120 and 139 for the top
number or between 80 and 89 for the bottom number may have an increased chance of
developing high blood pressure unless they take steps to prevent it. Blood pressure is
considered high if it is 140/90 or above. However, for people who have diabetes or
chronic kidney disease, blood pressure is high if it is 130/80 or above. If you have high
blood pressure, the goal is to get your pressure below 140/90 and keep it there.
Recognizing these facts about high blood pressure may save your life.
51. F .High blood pressure never causes damage to the kidneys.
52. T .Blood pressure is considered high if it is 140/90 or above.
53. T .Normal blood pressure in adults 18 and older is less than 120/80.
