Yes, But Are You Prepared?
Maj Bruce Hertelendy and NVCS Commander, Maj Dale Short, Brief Squadron on Emergency Preparedness
Since Y2K, families have stocked in water, cans of food, and other major stores. However, after seven years, some of that has grown stale. Canned food stored that long may have leaked or exploded. Some may have simply spoiled. It is time to rethink disaster preparedness.
At the general meeting January 17, the main speakers for Disaster Preparedness, Maj Bruce Hertelendy and Maj Dale Short shared their expertise with Jeco Squadron members. A reman observes rst-hand peoples needs in time of emergencies. Fire, water, weather, and outside forces

strike unexpectedly. Survival often depends on how well individuals and families prepare to take care of themselves in period of strife. Because folks may survive the incident but die of exposure, small injuries, or lack of uids, Bruce also said that the 72 hour survival kit is a strategy to anticipate possible emergencies. Check out the web sites www.ready.gov or www.readycolorado.gov. CAPNHQ also notes tips in CAPR 60-1. See sidebar.

2008 GOALS
What changes or improvements WELCOME NEW MEMBERS ! would YOU like to see take place Jason Rew and Jeremy Sing in the squadron in 2008? Maj Bob Smith asked sta members and their teams to develop goals for both team and squadron. At the Squadron meeting, held January 17 at the WAFA Conference Center, members were reminded to report their goals to Capt Brian Smiley. Good leadership practice reminds us that goals state our intention to accomplish essential tasks. It is important to write the goals down and look at them often.
