Major Donor Events Internship Spring 2012 Development The Development Department is seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern who is actively enrolled in an art history, history, museum studies, liberal arts, or other applicable course of study. The Major Donor Events Intern will support the planning, organizing and execution of all Major Donor Events, including private tours, trustee meetings and fundraising events. This position will report to the Director of Major Donor Events and will work closely with the Major Donor Event Planner, Major Gifts, Director's Circle and President's Circle, and Corporate Sponsorship departments. Hours 20 hours a week, minimum. Must be available on Wednesdays. Qualifications Applicants must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a recognized college or university. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are essential. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Additional proficiency in Adobe software or Photoshop is preferred. Preference will be given to those applicants with event production experience. Applicants must be flexible team-players who are enthusiastic about events. This is a non-paid internship, but LACMA can work with the university to provide course credit. Candidate must be available for a total of at least 20 hours a week for a 12-week period. Responsibilities Duties involve supporting all aspects of Major Donor event planning including: maintaining RSVP lists and database maintenance, supporting event print and electronic materials, invitation creation, vendor interaction and assisting with special donor requests. The Major Donor Events Intern will play an active role during events which may include managing check-in, involvement in event set up and/or tear down, and oversight of volunteers. Attendee follow up and post-event administrative duties will also be required. Major Gifts Internship Spring 2012 Development The Development Department is seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern who is actively enrolled in an art history, history, museum studies, liberal arts, or other applicable program for Fall 2010.

Hours 20 hours a week, minimum. Qualifications The desired intern will be a proficient writer and have strong analytical skills. The ideal candidate should be proficient with the Internet, Excel, and MS Word. He/she should be able to type 50 words per minute and should have good organizational skills. Responsibilities This is a non-paid internship, but school credits can be awarded. Intern will work closely with the Director's Circle and President's Circle, major gift programs which raise unrestricted revenue for art acquisitions, educational programming, and museum operations. Duties primarily entail ongoing research projects, such as direct mail and corporate prospecting; researching and updating donor information via the Internet; and cross-checking mailing addresses in Enterprise, the museum's fundraising database. Other responsibilities include filing, fulfilling donor stewardship internal gift processing, collaborating media for major proposals, and fulfilling upper-level membership benefits such as mailing VIP passes, exhibition catalogues, and other special donor requests. There may also be the opportunity to assist with special events for the Development Department, such as opening-night receptions and private viewings of exhibitions. Museum Service Council (MSC) Internship Spring 2012 Public Engagement The Museum Service Council is LACMA's volunteer support group of 200 volunteers that provides assistance to museum staff and visitors through several volunteer-led committees. Each committee has tracking and reporting requirements to keep the council board of directors and museum management well informed. Description This position will give the intern an inside look at managing an expansive volunteer program at a large museum, and the opportunity to be mentored in this field. Part of the time spent in this position will provide the intern with ample opportunity to learn about art through scheduled public and private tours of the museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions, and private curatorial presentations to the council. Responsibilities Reporting to the Council Manager, the council intern will perform several duties including but not limited to: Collates committee information into monthly reports for the board Tracks recurring events such as the admissions process: answers inquiries and logs applications, schedules interview appointments Assists the trainers with class needs Processes volunteer training evaluation reports Processes the annual preference surveys for volunteer selection of service

Works closely with the membership department in the dues collection process Makes timely deposits to the finance office of Tribute Fund donations, and prepares timely requisitions for payments Monitors the council budget and provides the council board of directors with a monthly report Takes notes at the monthly meetings of the MSC board of directors and prepares written minutes of the meeting for distribution to the board Schedules events such as the monthly continuing education art program that will require coordination with volunteer committee leaders, docent representatives, and use of the museum's calendar management program Schedules council social events and other council special events Helps the council's communications director collect reports for the MSC website, makes edits as necessary and uploads reports to the council website

Eligibility Requirements Applicants must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a recognized college or university. This noncompensatory internship is appropriate for students from the following majors: Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Museum Studies, Art History or related field. Academic credit can be arranged. Approximately 10-15 hours per week are required. A strong working knowledge of Word and Excel programs is required. Preference will be given to students with a serious interest in pursuing a museum career. Communications Internship Spring 2012 Communications LACMAs Communications Department develops and executes communications strategy for all areas of the museum, including exhibitions, the permanent collection, public programs, new and ongoing initiatives, and other news and events. All projects are supported with communications strategy that integrates traditional, digital, and new media campaigns. Communications Department interns work collaboratively with all members of the team, and most closely with the Communications Manager, Associate, and Coordinator. Interns work on numerous departmental projects varying in scope and timeline, including communications with journalists, development of press materials, tracking and monitoring media coverage, event planning, and research. Main Responsibilities: Handle requests from all types of media, including print, online, and broadcast Assist with creation of press kits related to museums exhibitions, public programs, special events, and announcements Track and monitor museums media coverage with clippings and coverage reports Assist with photography shoots that constitute news or editorial coverage of the museum Maintain and organize media database Research prospects for media outreach Assist with press event planning

Requirements:

Candidate must be enrolled in a college or university. Enrollment in art, art history, and/or communications or marketing classes is preferred. Candidate must be available for a total of at least 20 hours a week for a minimum of a 12-week period. This is a non-paid internship. LACMA can work with the university to provide course credit. Must be a flexible team-player who is excited to learn how a museum works! Candidate must understand that work tasks may change daily.
