Save the Date: St. Joseph Orphans' Picnic, Saturday, August 11 : In 1849 several priests seeing children suffering from the cholera epidemic took it upon themselves in Louisville, Kentucky to establish the St. Joseph German Catholic Orphan Society. Today, 162 years later, the Society cares for "today's orphans," children of all ages who have removed from their homes due to crisis, most often intense neglect and abuse, many relating to drugs and alcohol. Since 1885 the children have lived in our building on Frankfort Avenue. The building is 127 years old, built for orphans. It is currently not the best therapeutic environment, nor the most efficient home for the children. We are in Phase I of a capital campaign to raise funds for residential cottages to be built behind our main building. Our website is www.sjkids.org and www.sjkidsfoundation.org. Our annual fundraiser, the Annual Orphans' Picnic has been going on for 163 consecutive years to defray our $6 million yearly budget to care for these children in need, their average stay being 380 days. The Annual Orphans' Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 11. All are welcome! Upcoming Events: th Sunday, July 15 th Wednesday, July 18 st Saturday, July 21

Mrs. Miles died July 10, 2012. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Memorial for Fr. Jack Jones: It was suggested that a fitting memorial for our former pastor, Fr. Jack Jones, would be to donate non-perishable food for our local food pantry. Fr. Jones passed away on June 22nd, was pastor here from 1978- 1985, and was a founder of the Dare to Care organization. Without the school lunch program, some families have a difficult time feeding their children. Donations may be dropped off in the baskets/boxes outside the Parish Offices. Weekday Mass has been changed to 8:30 AM on Thursdays, effective on July 5th. We are grateful that our new pastor Fr. Dale has continued a weekday Mass, and we encourage you who are able to attend this Mass to worship together. RCIA: If you, or someone you know, may be interested in joining the Catholic Church, and would like to join this group, contact Marilena Wertz at 477-8534, or [email protected]. A group of Inquirers meet with the RCIA team each Sunday at 9:45-11:15 AM. Please pray for those in the process and for the members of the Catechetical team.
