Uttarakhand Assembly election (2012)

Uttarakhand(Overview)
Uttarakhand is often referred as Dev. Bhumi or land of the Gods. Pristine locations and natural beauty, lot of green forests, pilgrimage locations with some of the most revered Hindu temples makes up Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand was declared as a state on 9th Nov 2000 and has seen 6 Chief Ministers since then. Nityanand Swami was the first CM of Uttarakhand, when BJP came to power.

Within one year of his tenure, he was replace by Bhagat Singh Koshiyari of BJP as the CM. In 2002 elections, BJP lost the polls to arch rivals Congress and Narayan Dutt Tiwari was chosen as Chief Minister. In 2007, BJP came back to power and B C Khanduri was made the CM.

The INC's Vijay Bahuguna was appointed CM despite not having won a vote to be the party's leader in the legislative assembly. The new chief minister is Vijay Bahuguna,65-year-old former High Court Judge-turned politician of congress party representing Tehri in the Lok Sabha. He become CM Monday 12 march,2012.

Reasons for failure BJP

Uttarakhand with its 70 percent upper caste population; gives BJP a turf, where it can play its game perfectly -- A game which allows it to act like a party of the upper castes; and ignore everyone else. BJP kept in mind that if it manages to get even thirty percent of upper caste votes, then it can make a government in Uttarakhand.

It ignore SC/STs and minorities. If you look closely at the last year of BJP rule, you will find that, it actually stopped focusing on Welfare schemes related to Women, Children and Youth; and instead focused entirely on consolidating its traditional vote bank (a vote bank which sees BJP as a spokesperson of Hindus).

Congress failed in all other states but it seems that people in Manipur still have faith on the party and on its Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who grabbed the power in the state for the third consecutive time. And again OKRAM LBOBI SINGH become CM of manipur.

Reasons for Success of Congress

The ruling Congress has pledged to improve the law and order situation in Manipur and withdraw the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) if voted to power in the assembly election. Releasing the partys manifesto at Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Gaikhangam in the presence of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said the party will improve the law and order situation and withdraw AFSPA which has been a long-standing demand of the people of the state. .
