The seventh five year plan ( 1985-1990) came after the success of sixth five year plan which laid the foundation for further economic development during the seventh five year plan Rajeev Gandhi was the prime minister of the country. The achievement of sixth five year plan provided a strong platform for the seventh five year plan to health bring about further improvement in term of economic development. The main aim of this plan was to accelerate the improvement process in economic development in the country..

The aim for the seventh five year was to plan & medical services to all with special consideration of vulnerable groups & those who are living in treble hilly & remote rural areas so as to achieve all ( HFA) by 2000 A.D. The plan emphasized on community participation, inter sect oral co-ordination.

The priorities of the plan were:

Health services in rural, treble & hilly areas under minimum need program. Medical education & training. Control of emerging health problems especially in the area of non communicable disease. MCH & Family welfare

Medical research.
Safe water supply. Standardization , integration & application of Indian system of medical.

The total amount of funds which were allocated to the development plan was Rs.1.80,000 crores & 8900 crores (1.9%) was allocated for health and Rs.3.25,625 crores ( 1.8%) was allocated to family welfare, out of Rs.3392.00 crores.

The major developments during the seventh five year plan was as under:THE YEAR 1985 : The universal immunization program was launched on 19th of November. The birth day of late prime minister Smt. Indra Gandhi ji a Separate department of women & development was established by the ministry of human resource development.

Environmental protection act was started. National AIDS control program was started.

IN YEAR 1987 :World wide safe motherhood program was promulgated by world bank. National Diabetes program was launched.

IN YEAR 1988-1991 :-

High power committee was appointed by the government of India for nursing standard & to assess the working condition of nursing education & related matter.

The total plan investment for seventh five year plan for the period of 1985 1990 was estimated at Rs. 39,770 was allocated for the agree cultural sector which was approximately 22% of the total investment.

The main objective of 7th five year plan was to generate more scope of employment & increased productivity terms of food. The other important aspect constituted the 7th five year plan were:

Reducing the level of poverty Enhancing the telecommunication industry Development of agree culture Introduction & implementation of modern technology To generate more scope of employment Improved facilities for education to girl Increase productivity of small & large scale farmers.

The prime focus of the 7th five year plan was to implement plans & policies which would help in increasing the production of food grains, increase employment opportunity & raise the level of productivity according priority small industries was an important aspect of the 7th five year plan. To increase employment opportunities & to reduce poverty , along with other ongoing programs.
