Process Chains - Introduction

Process
A procedure inside of or external to an SAP systems with a defined
beginning and end.

Process Chains
To automate runs in BI, Processes are brought together in process
chains.
Definition:
A process chain is a sequence of processes that wait in the
background for an event. Some of these
processes trigger a separate event that can start other processes in
turn.
Process Chain Architecture

Typical Data Load Cycle For Process

Chain
Basic Principles of Process Chains

Openness
Abstract meaning of Process Any activity with
defined start and defined ending
Security
Processes gets planned before they run and can be viewed with
standard batch-monitor.

Starring of successors via batchevents.

Dumps and Aborts are caught and thus can be treated as failures.
Responsibility

Predecessors process is not responsible to start the correct

successors and provide them with necessary information.

Successor processes are only responsible to run correctly and

gather the necessary information.
Types of Process Chains

Local Chain
This is the simple process chain.

Meta Chain

This is the main chain which contains one or more local chains

Remote Chain

This is the process chain which is in some other systems that in BI.
Structure of Process Chains

Process Chain consists of -

Start Process
Defines the start of the process chain and all other chain
processes are scheduled to wait for an event.

Application Process
Represents BI activities that are typically performed as part
of BI operations. Examples include:
Data Load
Attribute/Hierarchy change run
Aggregate Rollup
Reporting Agent settings.
Structure of Process Chains

Collector Process
Used to manage multiple predecessor processes that feed into the
same subsequent process. Examples include:

AND : All of the predecessor processes must raise an event in order

for subsequent processes to be executed.

OR : At least one predecessor must send an event.

EXOR : Similar to regular OR, but there is only one execution of the
successor processes, even if several predecessor processes raise an
event.
Process Chain Maintenance

DTP Execution event appears below Load Data
Inserting DTP manually (For VENDOR)
Find and select DTP
Specify Parameter
