Usually antiporters exhibit "ping
pong" kinetics.
A substrate binds & is transported.
Then another substrate binds & is transported in the
other direction.
Only exchange is catalyzed, not net transport.
The carrier protein cannot undergo the conformational
transition in the absence of bound substrate.
