Extended Cell Radius NAGASARICJR Final Report
•In most cases, it is recommended that 18 dBi antennas with a half-power beamwidth of 65° be used.
•When deployed at sea, the antennas are mounted as high as possible, in order to resist the effect of the
Earth's curvature. However, this may also create coverage holes for areas near the antennas. In this scenario,
suitable antennas must be selected to avoid coverage holes. In addition, antennas with smaller surface areas
are recommended, to resist the ocean wind, which also reduces the wind resistance on the tower or pole
where the antennas are mounted.
•In open areas, vertically polarized antennas have better performance than other types of polarized
antennas. If wide cell coverage is required, vertically polarized antennas are recommended.
•Non-RET antennas can be used for scenarios that do not require tilt adjustment.
Feature Description
In principle, this feature allows UE propagation delay to be more than 15 km, and in order to work requires
a preamble format RACH that supports cell range above 15 km, i.e preamble format 1, 2, and 3. The
count is as follows:
OBJECTIVE
Background :
Nowadays, mobile communications networks cover most of the inland areas, but remote
areas such as at sea, or in the desert, or grasslands, have poor coverage due to site acquisition
problems. It is difficult to find suitable site locations at sea. Site deployment as usual in the
desert or in grasslands (where traffic is light) requires excessively huge investment.
Objectives :
This feature increases cell coverage to meet communication requirements in rural and remote
areas such as at sea, in the desert, and in grasslands, significantly decreasing the cost to
deploy sites in such areas.

LESSON LEARNT
Lesson Learnt | Key Finding Issue
Site antenna height and power is basic condition for far coverage.
Relay trial site CJR372, 20W, from ground to site 183-158=25m, total antenna height is 60+25=85m.
DT test can serving 17KM
This case proved if antenna height and power enough, extend coverage feature working fine.
DEPLOYMENT RECOMMENDATION
Deployment Recommendation
› This extended cell radius feature can be used in rural areas where
coverage is limited due to high site to site distance, and is
implemented in low band coverage such as L900, due to better
propagation loss.
› Coverage level (RSRP) will be the same but more users are
allowed to access cells. To make this feature more effective,
there is a good thing if it is equipped with coverage
enhancement on the DL and UL side, namely: UL TMA for UL
coverage gain and Higher PA Power for DL coverage gain
› For the evaluation itself, maybe it can be done with the format
1 preamble that supports up to 28 km and the radius cell is
raised gradually, for example the first cell radius is 18 km, 20
km, then 25 km.
