INTRODUCTION

 Pokhara University Nepal’s fifth University, which adopt different program under it.

 Nobel College is affiliated under Pokhara University , established in 2001 A.D.

 Under which Bachelor in Computer Information System (BCIS) program is related to


computer sectors.

 The main objective of internship program is to help student to face the real world
situation and to apply the theoretical knowledge in practical.

 Nepal Telecom as the telecommunication service provider which helps in


telecommunication sector for internship.

 The tasks required for internship will provide a professional atmosphere in which to
practice many concepts learned in classes.

Global System FOR mobile (GSM)

 What ?
GSM: Global System for Mobile communications.
Formerly: Group Special Mobile.

 When ?
1982: GSM created to set standard.
1992: First digital GSM system launched.
1999: Launched in Nepal.

 Why ?
Higher digital voice quality.

MOBILE STATION

 Mobile Station consist of two parts:


 Mobile Equipment
 SIM

 Mobile Equipment
 Hardware used by the subscriber to access
the network.
 Uniquely identified by IMEI number

 Subscriber Identity Module (SIM)


 Smartcard containing the international Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI).
 Allows user to send and receive calls , messages and received other subscriber
services.
BASE STATION SUB-SYSTEM (BSS)

 BSS connects the Mobile Station (MS) with Mobile Switching Center
(MSC) through a interface.

 In charge of Transmission and Reception.

 Consists of 2 parts:

 Base Transceiver Station (BTS)


 Base Station Controller (BSC)
NETWORK & SWITCHING SUB-SYSTEM (NSS)

 Manages communication between mobile users with the other users.

 Consists of different components as:

Mobile Switching Center (MSC)

Gateway Mobile Switching Center (GMSC)

HLR &VLR

AUC & EIR


GSM FREQUENCY

 In Nepal, GSM network operates in 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands.

 GSM – 900
 890~915 MHz to send information from Mobile Station to the Base
Station (Uplink).
 935~960 MHz for the other direction (downlink).
 Duplex spacing is 45MHz

 GSM - 1800
 1710~1785 MHz for Uplink
 1805~1880 MHz for Downlink.
 Duplex spacing is 95MHz
