The definition of explicit is, “to fully and clearly express


something, leaving nothing implied.” Something is
explicit when it is cleared stated and spelled out and
there is no room for confusion, as in the writing of a
contract or statute.

An example of explicit is someone is giving a very straight forward
directions to a location.

EXAMPLE:
 Maria was so mad at her mom for grounding her.

 Tom felt sad. he could not go on the picnic because it was


raining.
IMPLICIT

The definition of implicit is, “implied or understood though


not plainly or directly expressed.” Something is, therefore,

implicit when it is not directly stated but is either suggested
in the wording or necessary to effectuate the purpose.
Example:
 Maria glared at her mother, quickly spun on her heels, and
slammed the door so hard the neighbor probably heard.

 Tom looked at the grey, tearful sky; his face crumbled .He put
the salmon sandwiches back beside the chilled bottle of wine
in the fridge, then sighed at the empty wicker basket.

CLAIM OF FACT
This are statement that attempts to convince you that something is or
not true.

 OBSERVABLE,VERIFIABLE EVENTS AND MEASURABLE

 EXISTED,EXIST, OR WILL EXIST


EXAMPLE:
Young adults will take thousands of selfies during their
lifetime.

Global warming will impact future generations and


eventually ruin the environment.

The 16,000-sq. meter building has four floors.


CLAIM OF VALUE
Attempts to convince you to make a judgment about an idea or position

In a claim of value, one expresses their approval or disapproval


They prove that an action, belief or condition is right or wrong,
good or bad, beautiful or ugly, worthwhile or undesirable
EXAMPLE:
Illegal immigrants are ruining the American economy.

Cheating men are undesirable to women.

Smoking marijuana is less harmful to one’s health than


smoking cigarettes .
CLAIM OF POLICY
A claim of policy argues that certain conditions should not exist

They promote courses of action for problems that need a solution

They almost always include the keywords “should,” “ought to,” or “must”
EXAMPLE:
A dress code should be introduced for all public high school
students.

Sun block should be used by people constantly exposed to the sun

To attract more non traditional students, this college must review
and revise its course offerings

HYPERTEXT
is a way of representing text about a topic where other topics can
be linked. A link is generally represented as a clickable area which
will redirect the reader to another resource can contain information
about similar or related topics. The “World Wide Web” or Internet is
based on hypertext links and hypertext documents. In fact, the
language that web pages are written in is HTML – Hyper Text
Markup Language.
INTERTEXT

is the modeling of a text's meaning by another text. It is defined as the


connections between language, images, characters, themes, or subjects
depending on their similarities in language, genre or discourse. This
view recognizes that the text is always influenced by previous texts.
