What is Barricade?
- an improvised barrier erected across a street or other
thoroughfare to prevent or delay the movement of opposing
forces.
More..
CLASSIFICATION OF BARRICADING
SOFT BARRICADE
- are those that use an approved tape to prevent or restrict
access to an area. They are suitable in situations where
physical protection by use of a safety barrier system is not
warranted.
SOLID BARRICADE
CAUTION BARRICADE

TYPES OF SCAFFOLDING
SUPPORTED SCAFFOLDING
SUSPENDED
SCAFFOLDING
- are platforms suspended by ropes, or other non-
rigid means, from an overhead structure.
TYPES OF SCAFFOLDING
Bad Planking
- Often happens due to poor scaffold design techniques, use of the wrong materials,
or poor maintenance of the scaffold over time.
Falling Debris
- Of all scaffolding accidents that commonly occur, falling debris is part of the 72%
of accidents related to slips and falls.
RISKS
Electrocution
- Workers are often at risk when setting up the scaffold, moving it, or while
working with certain tools near the lines.
Scaffold Preparation
- Another scaffolding risk that tends to be overlooked is the risk of poor
scaffold assembly and preparation.
TYPES OF GUARDRAILS
• Along the Front Edge – not more than 14 in. from the work. For lathing and plastering, a gap of 18
in. is permitted
• Top Rails – should be no less than 38 and no more than 45 in. tall
• Midrails – placed halfway between top rail and platform. For construction work, midrails may
not be spaced more 19 in. apart.
• Toeboards – atleast 3-1/2 in. high. Open spacing between the toe board and platform can not
exceed ¼ in.
FALL PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be trained how to properly use PFAP. It includes anchorage, lifeline and body harness.
Wear hardhats
Barricade area below scaffold to forbid entry into that area.
Use panels or screens if material is stacked higher than the toeboard
Build a canopy or erect a net below the scaffold that will contain or deflect falling objects.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF SAFE SCAFFOLD
CONSTRUCTION
Platforms must:
Be fully planked or decked with no more than 1 inch gap
Be able to support its weight and 4 times maximum load
Be atleast 18 inches wide
No large gaps in front of edge of platforms
Each abutted end of plank must rest on a separate support surface
Overlap platforms atleast 12 in. over supports unless restrained to prevent
movement
SCAFFOLD PLATFORM CONSTRUCTION
Platforms must:
No paint on wood platforms
Use scaffold grade wood
Fully planked between front upright and guardrail support
Component pieces used must match and be of the same type
Erect on stable and level ground
Lock wheels and braces
SUPPORTED SCAFFOLDS
Foundation – scaffold poles, legs, posts, frames and uprights must be on base
plates and mud sills or other firm foundations.
