Introduction TO RTPP
• Andhra Pradesh power corporation limited”(APGENCO) is power
generating organization in Andhra Pradesh. It undertakes and maintains
• the
The power plants capacity
total installed of thermal hydro and
of APGENCO solar. and
is 4559.6 MWwind.
comprising 2810 MW
Thermal,1747 MW Hydro and 2 MW wind power
• RTPP(Rayalaseema thermal power plant) is the coal based
thermal plant which comprises most capacity of APGENCO. It
consists of 1) 5*210 MW installed unit
2) 1*600 MW (under construction)

• ESSENTIAL INPUTS TO THE PLANT

1)coal
2)furnace oil and diesel oils
3)water
AUXILIARY SYSTEMS

• Feeders
• Mills
• Fans
• Soot blowers
• Cooling pond
• Condenser
• Pumps
• Recirculating cooling system
Boiler:
1. Boiler is a device used for generating steam using heat from
combustion of fuel
2. Water enters the Economiser and gets heated by the
temperature of flue gases.
3. And then it enters boiler drum and sent to water wall
heaters through downcomers and heated by the heat energy
released by the furnace.
4. A mixture of water and steam from water walls is sent to
drum where it gets separated steam is sent to superheater
and water is sent to water walls again
5. After doing some work in high pressure turbine steam
comes to reheater coils for reheating and sent to IP Turbine

• BOILER IN RTPP
• TYPE : single pass,tower type,radiant reheat,wilcox&babcock
boiler.
Classification of boilers
• Depending upon the axis of boiler
• Based on position of water and hot gases
• Relying on the method of circulation of water
• According to the pressure of boilers
• According to the position
• According to no. Of tubes
Boiler Mountings
• Safety valve
• Water level indicator
• Feed check valve
• Pressure gauge
• Blowoff cock
• Fusible plug
• Steam stop valve
• Man hole
• Mud holes or slight holes
ACCESSORIES
Economiser
• Economiser in RTPP :
• TYPE : grilled bare tube horizontal
economizer.
• Total Heat Surface Area : 791m2
• Flue gases coming out of the boiler
carries lot of heat.
• Temperature of flue gases passes
through is 540deg c

• Temp. inside ECONOMISER is about

315deg c.
Super Heater:
• Super heater is used to remove the moisture
content from the steam.
• Super heater raises the temperature of steam
above 540 degree C.
• Classification of super heater
• Super heater in RTPP
• TYPE : convective type,horizontal
superheater
• Sections : 4
Advantages of super heater
1. Increases efficiency
2. Reduces corrosion of turbine blades.
AIR PREHEATER
• It is used to preheat the air before entering into
furnace.
• It is a heat exchanger in which some further heat is
extracted from the flue gases and use to heat the coming
air for combustion.
• AIRPREHEATER IN RPP
• TYPE : Rotary,regenerative,Lungstrom trisector Air
preheater
• No. Of APH per unit : 2
• Heating surface : 1959m2
Boiler drum & draught
• Purpose of drought is to supply • Boiler drum
required quantity of air for
combustion and remove burnt
products from the systems.
• CLASSIFICATION of DRAUGHT
1. Natural draught
2. Forced draught
3. Induced draught
ELECTRO STATIC
PRECIPITATOR(ESP)
• It is extensively used in removal of fly
ash from electric utility boiler
emissions.
• Dust ladden gase passes through
oppositely charged conductors.
• And then passes throgh collecting unit
which consist of vertical metal plates.
• Deposited dust particles are removed by
rapping mechanism by hammers
• The warm water is taken from the
Cooling Tower condenser tubes to about a quarter of
the way up the cooling tower

• This breaks the water up in to very fine

spray, increasing the surface area of
the water droplets making it easier to
cool.

• The cooling tower is designed as a

natural draught chimney, drawing cold
air from outside through the falling
water.

• Cool water is collected in pond at the

bottom of the cooling tower.

• From here it is pumped back to the

condensers
Conclusion
•By installing the economiser in the plant, the plant efficiency can be
increased by 10%.
•By implementing the super heater the efficiency can be increased by
25-30%.
•Due to calorific value of coal the heat liberated by burning the coal in
com bustion chamber.
•Fly ash in flue gas is less.
•The mass of fuel gas required by the coal mill can be reduced by
removal of moisture in coal & power required can be improved.
