One Lord One Baptism

(Paul’s Outlook)
II Thessalonians :3:1-5
I Corinthians : 10: 1-5
For I want you to know brothers that our
fathers were all under the cloud and passed
through the sea, and all were baptized into
Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate
the same spiritual food and all drank the same
spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual
rock that followed them and the Rock was
Christ.
Nevertheless, with most of them God
was not pleased, for they were overthrown
in the wilderness.

I know that through your


prayers and the help of the
Spirit of Jesus Christ this will
turn out for my deliverance.
Colossians : 4:3

At the same time, pray also for


us, that God may open to us a door
for the word, to declare the
mystery of Christ.
FIRST REQUEST
II Thessalonians : 3:1

Finally brothers, pray for us that


the word of the Lord may speed
ahead and be honoured as
happened among you.
First Element of the Request

II Thessalonians 3:1 a

The Word of the Lord may


SPEED AHEAD
Isaiah : 55:11

….my word that goes out from


my mouth; it shall not return
to me empty, but it shall
accomplish that which I
purpose, and shall succeed in
the thing for which I SENT it.

surpassing power belongs to

accepted it not as the word of men

God, which is at work in you

to you – I Paul, again and again –
but Satan hindered us.
Second Element of the
First Request

II Thessalonians 3 : 1 b
pray for us that
The Word of the Lord may be
HONOURED
We Glorify GOD

- By HEARING the WORD


- By OBEYING the WORD
- By ACCEPTING the WORD
- By TRUSTING the WORD
Success of the WORD in
Thessalonica
I Thessalonians: 1:5 Our gospel
came to you not only in word but also
in power and in the Holy spirit.
7. ..You became an example to all
the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
8……your faith in God has gone forth
everywhere, so that we need not say
anything.
SECOND Request

II Thessalonians : 3:2
(pray for us..)
That we may be delivered from
wicked and evil men.
For not all have faith

…..the Word of GOD


is not bound.
Hindrances
Satan’s influence on the
Messenger:
- Temptation
- Deception
- Negate the testimony of the
messenger
I Thessalonians: 2:2

But though we had already


suffered and been shamefully
treated at Philipi, as you know we
had boldness in our God to declare
to you the gospel of God in the
midst of much conflict.
Acts : 18:9,10

….Do not be afraid but go on


speaking and do not be silent,
…..10. for I am with you, and no
one will attack you to harm you,
for I have many in the city who
are my people.
Luke: 23:41

And we indeed justly, for we


are receiving the due reward
for our deeds; but this man
has done nothing wrong.
Acts: 25: 4,5
4. Festus replied that Paul was being
kept at Caesarea and that he himself
intended to go there shortly.
5. So, said he, “let the men of
authority among you go down with
me, and if there is anything wrong
about the man let them bring charges
against him.”
II Thessalonians : 3:2

(pray for us) that we may be


delivered from wicked and evil
men. For not all have faith.
Paul’s conclusion
II Thessalonians : 3: 3,5
3. But the Lord is faithful. He will
establish you and guard you
against the evil one.

5. May the Lord direct your hearts


to the Love of God and to the
steadfastness of Christ
I Corinthians: 10:13

God is faithful and he will not


let you be tempted beyond
your ability, but with the
temptation he will also provide the
way of escape, that you may be
able to endure it .
Luke:22:31,32

31. Simon, Simon, behold, Satan


demanded to have you, that he might
sift you like wheat.
32. But I have prayed for you that
your faith may not fail. And when you
have turned again, strengthen your
brothers.
Paul’s Blessings

May the Lord direct them

- To the LOVE OF GOD and


- To the Endurance of Christ
I John : 4:7,8

7. Beloved let us love one


another, for love is from God and
whoever loves has been born of
God and knows God.
8. Anyone who does not love
does not know God, because God
is love.
Endurance

- Patience
- Fortitude
- Perseverance
- Sustaining
- Constancy
Hebrews: 12:2

Jesus the founder and perfecter


of our faith, who for the joy that
was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame and
seated at the right hand of the
throne of God.
Hebrews: 10:12,13

12. …he sat down at the right


hand of GOD
13. Waiting from that time until
his enemies should be made a
footstool for his feet.
Sustenance of Baptism

- The WORD may Speed


- The WORD may be honoured
- Deliverance from Evil and wicked
- Walk towards Love of God
- Accept Endurance of Christ
