Let’s discuss
• What is an instruction?
• Statement that describes how to do
something.
• An order or command.
• The action or process of teaching.
• Giving Instruction means?
• Telling someone what to do
and when to do.
Some Tips on how to give effective
instructios.
• There are two general rules for telling what students need to do.
 Instructions must be kept as simple as possible.
 And they must be logical.

• Before teachers give instructions, they must ask themselves:

 What is the important information I am trying to covey?

 What students must know in order to complete the task successfully.
 Which information do they need first ?
 Which comes second?
 What materials do they need to do the task?
 Are they going to work individually, in pairs or in group?
Some practical tips for giving instructions.
• The formulation should be short, easy to
understand and precise.
• Try clapping your hands or knocking on a desk to
attract the attention of the group.
• The body language counts the gesture, miming
etc. Spoken instructions are not everything.
• Instructions should be followed by
demonstrations. ( by doing role- play with a

• Imperative exponents are frequently used for
giving instructions.
