RESEARCH QUESTION
Why do many students in your school(s) smoke?
Method
What was the method?
• Online anonymous questionnaire
• Research from previous social science surveys about smoking
• Connecting natural and human science by comparison of
smoking and cancer statistics.
Why has this method been selected?
• To ensure that the interviewee feels safe,
• To try to ensure that the collected data is not askew due to
Hawthorne’s effect
How were participants selected?
• According to the research question, the participants of
the study should be teenagers, therefore I have sent the
survey to the students at my school, but also to a group
for IB students, ensuring a wide range of data.
How was the truthfulness of responses tracked?

Method • In order to allow people to feel more comfortable, I have

allowed them to stay anonymous, therefore they most
likely have given truer data than they would’ve if they
were forced to give their personal data.
How large was the sample size?
• Overall, over 300 responses have been collected through
the Google Form.
Results
How were the answers found?
 In order to find possible answers to the research question, I have prepared a selection of reasons for
smoking, as well as allowed the participants to write their own responses, these have then been put
into categories to create a more concrete data set.
