ZERO CONDITIONAL

We use the zero conditional to talk about general truths or to describe facts. We use the
present simple in both parts of the sentence.

If + present simple + present simple

EXAMPLES:

 If the weather is very cold, water freezes. (it’s a fact)

 If you heat water, it boils.

 If the weather conditions are bad, stay at home. (be/ stay)


• If people eat too much, they get fat.
• If you touch a fire, you get burned.
• People die if they don't eat.
• You get water if you mix hydrogen and oxygen.
• Snakes bite if they are scared.
• If babies are hungry, they cry.
If people eat too much, they should do exercise.

FIRST CONDITIONAL
We use the first conditional to describe possible situations and a possible result- in the
present or future.

If + present simple + will/ won’t


EXAMPLES:

 If it rains a lot tomorrow, there will be floods.

 If we don’t stop eating fish, there won’t be any left in the sea.
