Chemistry Components – Flotation Reagents
• Flotation Reagents:
• Collectors
• Frothers
• Regulators
• ( i ) Activators
• ( ii ) Depressants
• ( iii ) PH Regulators
Collectors: Collectors are Organic compounds that make selected minerals ‘water-repellent’ by
Adsorption of molecules or ions on to the mineral surface , so that attachment of the particle to the
air bubble can be made on contact.
Frothers: Frothers are added to Stabilise the bubble formation in the pulp phase to create a
reasonably stable froth . It also allows selective drainage from the froth od the entrained Gangue and
to increase flotation Kinetics.
Regulators: Regulators / Modifiers are used to Modify / control the action of the ‘collector’ either by
intensifying ( ACTIVATORS ) or reducing ( DEPRESSANTS ) its water repellent effect on the mineral
surface. The PH regulators suitably alter the Hydrogen ion concentration of the medium to obtain the
BEST Flotation
