Psychological Test?
Psychological tests
- are written, visual, or verbal
evaluations administered to
assess the cognitive and emo-
tional functioning of children
and adults.

Psychological Tests
- It is developed for the assessment
of a particular psychological attribute
of the persons being tested. It can’t be
used for carrying out the assessment
of the persons with regard to other
psychological attributes.
Purpose of
Psychological Test:
 1. used to assess a variety
of mental abilities and
attributes, including
achievement and ability,
personality, and
neurological functioning.
2. For school children, may
be used as tools in school
placement.
(through academic achievement,
ability &  intelligence tests)
3.used in determining the
presence of a learning disability
or a developmental delay 

 4.in identifying giftedness, or


in tracking intellectual
development.
 5. with teens and young
adults, to determine
vocational ability (e.g., in
career counseling).(intelligence
testing is suitable to use)
 6.to screening job
candidates, may be used in
an educational setting to
determine personality
strengths and weaknesses.
1. Intelligence Tests
- Used in assessing the
intelligence or level of
cognitive functioning of
the individuals.
2. Personality Tests
- Used in assessing
personal qualities or
characteristics referred to
as personality traits.
3. Attitude Tests
- Used in assessing the
attitude of the persons towards
a thing, an idea, a person,
philosophy, custom, tradition,
etc.
4.Achievement Tests
- Used in assessing what a
person has achieved,
acquired or learnt.
5. Aptitude Tests
- Used in assessing different
aptitudes capable of predicting
one’s success in the area of the
particular aptitude such as
mechanical, numerical, clerical,
closure etc.
6. Interest /vocational test
– Used in the assessment of the
varying interests possessed by an
individual such as interest in
gardening, literary interest, interest in
social work etc.
7.Emotional Intelligence
(E.I) Tests
- Used in assessing the level of
emotional intelligence
possessed by the individuals.
8. Neuropsychological Tests
- Used in assessing deficits in cognitive
functioning (i.e. ability to think, speak,
reason, etc.) that may result from some sort
of brain damage such as stroke or brain
injury.
9. Mood and Motivation
Tests
- Used in assessing the nature
of the mood and motivational
levels of the individuals.
10. Adjustment Inventories
or Tests
- Used in assessing the level of
one’s adjustment towards self and
environment.
11. Specific Clinical tests
- Used to assess specific matters of
clinical concerns such as level of anxiety,
depression, mental,
retardation, emotional disturbance, etc.

measures of mental functioning.
Most are objective and quantifiable.

Psychological testing requires
a clinically trained examiner.

Psychological tests are only one


element of a psychological
assessment. They should never be
used as the sole basis for a
diagnosis.
Prior to the administration of any
psychological test,
the administrator should provide
the child and the child's parent with
information on the nature of the test
and its intended use, and information
on the confidentiality of the results.
There are no significant risks
involved in psychological testing.
