Coal is a combustible sedimentary rock formed from plant matter that lived hundreds of millions of years ago. It contains stored energy from ancient plants and is classified into types based on its carbon content, including anthracite with the highest carbon level and lignite with the lowest. Coal is used as a fuel to generate electricity and as a raw material to make iron and steel, with the different coal types utilized for different purposes based on their carbon percentages and energy values.

ENERGY WHAT IS COAL ENERGY?
-Is a combustible black or brownish-black
sedimentary rock with high amount if carbon and hydrocarbon -Coal Contains the energy stored by plants that lived hundred s of millions of years ago in a swampy forest. How does Coal Formed? Types of Coal ■ ANTHRACITE -contains 86%-97% carbon and generally has the highest heating value of all ranks of coal. ■ Bituminous Coal Contains 45%-86% carbon. Bituminous coal is used to generate fuel and raw making material for making iron and steel. Sub Bituminous Coal Typically contains 35%-45% of carbon, and it has lower heating value than bituminous coal Lignite Coal Contains 25%-35% of carbon and has the lowest energy content of all coal ranks. Lignite Coal deposits tend to be relatively young and were not subjected to extreme heat or pressure. How does Coal produce Energy?
